List of Cancer Survival Rates By Country 2024

Cancer is a leading cause of mortality worldwide and the second leading cause of death in the United States, second only to heart disease. This ubiquitous disease arises from abnormal cell proliferation, which leads to the deterioration of body tissues. Cancer can affect any anatomical area and has the ability to metastasize, spreading to different body parts and tissues.

Cancer survival rates by country in 2024: breast cancer, stomach cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer

While treatments such as chemotherapy have the potential to put the cancer in remission, they often cost a lot of money and may not be available in some areas. In addition, the effectiveness of treatment does not guarantee that the cancer will be eradicated.

The United States has the highest overall cancer survival rate, with a breast cancer survival rate of 88.6%, a stomach cancer survival rate of 29.1%, a lung cancer survival rate of 18.7%, and a prostate cancer survival rate of 97.2%.

Cancer survival rates by country in 2024

While certain countries may not stand out on the list of the best overall survival rates, they have demonstrated commendable performance in specific types of cancer treatments. For example, Southeast Asian countries such as Japan and South Korea have demonstrated impressive success rates in treating gastrointestinal cancers. Conversely, these countries have relatively poor survival rates in treating other types of cancer, such as melanoma. This regional disparity highlights the complex interplay of factors that influence cancer outcomes, including genetic predisposition, access to medical resources, and treatment options. Such reports often emphasize the critical role of early detection in improving cancer survival rates. In fact, the likelihood of surviving cancer is closely linked to timely detection of the disease. If cancer progresses without treatment, the patient’s chances of survival are greatly reduced. Therefore, early detection not only enhances treatment options but also increases the likelihood of success, highlighting the critical importance of proactive screening and diagnostic measures.

This list is based on the 2018 CONCORD-3 report, which analyzed data from 37.5 million cancer patient records from 71 countries and territories to reveal five-year survival rates for 18 different types of cancer in adults and children. This comprehensive study aimed to identify the countries with the best cancer patient survival rates.
