The Final Destination franchise is all about bizarre yet creative deaths, but some of them stand out for how brutal they were. During the peak of teen horror movies in the 2000s, arrived Final Destination, directed by James Wong. Final Destination introduces the audience to Alex Browning (Devon Sawa), who has a vision of the plane he has boarded exploding shortly after takeoff. Alex panics, and he and other friends, classmates, and a teacher are taken off the plane, which explodes just like in his vision. However, as they escape Death, this goes after them as Death can’t be cheated.

What follows is Alex and the other survivors doing their best to escape Death, who goes after them one by one, killing them in strange and mysterious ways. The box office success of Final Destination led to it becoming a franchise, with all sequels following the same premise of a normal person having a vision of a catastrophic and deadly event. Death got more and more creative in each Final Destination movie, and while some deaths were absurd and even silly, others were so brutal they became memorable.

Tim’s Windowpane Death
Final Destination 2
The events of Final Destination 2 begin when Kim Corman (A.J. Cook) has a vision of a horrific accident on the highway that starts with a logging truck. Among the survivors of the accident are Nora Carpenter and her 15-year-old son Tim, and Death decides to take the latter right in front of his mother in an unexpected and shocking way. Kim realizes that Death is going after them in reverse order, so Nora and Tim are next on the list.
The scene is graphic, but what makes it more brutal is that Tim was just a teenager.
Final Destination 2 makes it look as if Tim is about to meet his end at the dentist, with a couple of “accidents” happening in the building, such as the water from the fish tank leaking and Tim almost choking. However, Tim and Nora make it out of the dentist’s office alive, though not for long. Right outside the building, Tim runs towards a group of pigeons and is crushed by a huge windowpane, right in front of Nora. The scene is graphic, but what makes it more brutal is that Tim was just a teenager.

As they argue next to the rails, Death claims Billy’s life, and it does so with shrapnel from the wreckage of Carter’s car flowing directly into his head, decapitating him at a very specific and graphic angle. Billy’s death is not only shocking because of how horrifying it is, but mostly because it wasn’t his time yet.

The first one to be killed as part of Death’s plan in the first Final Destination movie is Tod (Chad Donella), Alex’s best friend. Tod’s brother stays on the plane and dies, so Tod is already carrying a lot of trauma on top of survivor’s guilt – and Death takes advantage of this when it’s time to claim Tod’s life. Tod delivers a farewell speech at the memorial service for the plane’s victims, and that same night, while in the bathroom, a chain reaction that begins with the toilet leaking leads to his death.
Tod slips into the bathtub and a clothesline wraps around his neck, suffocating him while making it look as if he has hanged himself. Because of this, along with the above-mentioned survivor’s guilt and trauma, Tod’s death is ruled a suicide. Without counting the plane’s explosion, Tod’s death is the first one in the Final Destination saga, and the build-up to it is so suspenseful that it further adds to the brutality of it.

Roy’s Accidental Death
Final Destination 5
Final Destination 5 is the saga’s surprise prequel, a twist that comes right at the end of the movie. Before that, however, Sam (Nicholas D’Agosto) and his friends have to dodge Death after he saves them from a bridge collapse. One of the survivors is Sam’s friend and coworker Nathan (Arlen Escarpeta), who, when Death is set to take him, survives when the one who dies is his co-worker Roy Carson (Brent Stait).
A construction hook falls where Roy is standing, but he’s stopped from falling into some spikes when the hook impales him, leaving him hanging.
Nathan and Roy are at work and they get into an argument when Nathan calls him to the control room. Roy, who has no respect for Nathan, begins to shout at him while Nathan notices they are in a danger zone. A construction hook falls where Roy is standing, but he’s stopped from falling into some spikes when the hook impales him, leaving him hanging. At the end of Final Destination 5, it’s revealed that Roy was going to die soon, anyway, as he had a brain aneurysm.

Among the people she manages to save thanks to this are best friends Ashley (Chelan Simmons) and Ashlyn (Crystal Lowe), who are also the first ones on Death’s list. A couple of weeks after the Devil’s Flight accident, Ashley and Ashlyn go to the tanning salon that they always go to.
Ashlyn sets the room temperature higher than it should be, causing the condensation from the beverage to drip onto the power supply unit.
Ashley arrives with an iced beverage and ignores the manager when she asks her to throw it out. Instead, Ashley sets it on the table above the power supply unit. Ashlyn sets the room temperature higher than it should be, causing the condensation from the beverage to drip onto the power supply unit. This unleashes a chain reaction that leads to a coat rack sliding into the handles of both beds, trapping them. With the temperature rising, Ashley and Ashlyn are burned alive.

Frankie’s Drive-Thru Death
Final Destination 3
Final Destination 3 is very creative with its deaths, with many of them being quite disturbing. Falling into this category is Frankie’s (Sam Easton), which is not only a graphic and disturbing death but also an unexpected one. While at a drive-thru with Kevin, Wendy begins to notice signs that another life is about to be claimed, and it appears to be hers and/or Kevin’s when a truck is about to crash against their car. Meanwhile, another truck, without a driver, is quickly approaching.
Wendy and Kevin escape from the car right on time, as the driver-less truck crashes into their car and the one in front of them – which, as it turns out, is driven by Frankie. The truck’s engine flies directly into his head, killing him instantly and without him even noticing, and to add even more shock and brutality to the scene, the engine cuts even more of his head when Wendy and Kevin come close.

Nora’s Death At The Elevator
Final Destination 2
Going back to Final Destination 2 for a moment, as there’s another brutal death in it that is directly linked to a previous entry on this list. After meeting with the rest of the survivors so that Kim and Burke can explain to them what’s going on and what’s going to happen to them if they don’t find a way to cheat Death, Nora leaves, as she has already lost her son. Nora gets into the elevator, where a man carrying parts of a mannequin with hooks is standing behind her.
Nora, panicking, steps out of the elevator, but it closes before she can break free and her head is stuck inside the elevator.
When Nora picks up her phone from the floor, her hair gets tangled in a hook from the man’s box. Nora, panicking, steps out of the elevator, but it closes before she can break free and her head is stuck inside the elevator. Nora ends up being decapitated, which is quite a shocking image, but what makes this death so disturbing is that it appeals to a very real and common fear of elevators.

One of the survivors of the bridge collapse in Final Destination 5 is Olivia Castle (Jaqueline MacInnes Wood), Sam’s co-worker. A couple of days later, Olivia gets LASIK, and that’s when Death decides to do its thing. Olivia is very nervous about the surgery and is given a teddy bear to ease her anxiety, and she squeezes it so hard that she pops off one of its eyes. Once her head is secured and the doctor prepares her eyes for the surgery, he realizes that he’s missing part of her file and leaves to talk to his secretary.
Olivia tries to reach the emergency button but can’t, and the laser burns through her eye and hand.
The trigger is the cup she leaves on a water cooler being knocked over, spilling onto the power unit the laser machine is plugged into. This sets the intensity of the laser to dangerously high levels, and Olivia starts to panic. Olivia tries to reach the emergency button but can’t, and the laser burns through her eye and hand. When she finally breaks free, she slips on the teddy bear’s eye and falls through the window. If that isn’t enough, her eye pops out when she hits the floor and is run over by a passing car.

Hunt’s Pool Drain Incident
The Final Destination

The Final Destination isn’t the best entry in the saga, but it does have one of the most infamous and disturbing scenes. After escaping a catastrophic accident at an auto race thanks to Nick’s vision, Hunt is skeptical about Nick’s realization of Death going after the survivors for escaping its plan and doesn’t pay attention to his warnings. Nick tells him to stay away from water after having a vision of one of them dying in water, but Hunt still goes for a swim at the country club.
He becomes stuck, but his butt is on the drain, unable to scream for help as the draining pressure increases.
Hunt accidentally activates the pool’s drain with a water gun he takes away from a kid who was messing with him, so when he gets into the pool to get his lucky coin, disaster is unleashed. The coin is sucked down the drain, and so is Hunt. He becomes stuck, but his butt is on the drain, unable to scream for help as the draining pressure increases. Hunt is disemboweled by the drain, with his insides shooting out through a poolside pump. It’s a very bizarre way of dying, but it’s also very brutal to have your insides sucked out from that very specific body part.

Candice’s Gymnastics Accident
Final Destination 5

Final Destination 5 is not just the most surprising Final Destination movie due to the prequel twist, but it also has some horrifying deaths, such as Candice’s. Candice (Ellen Wroe) is an intern at Sam’s job and the girlfriend of his friend, Peter. Candice is a gymnast, and that’s what Death uses to claim her life. Candice is training when a screw falls from one of the balance beams and another gymnast steps on it, knocking a bowl of powder into a fan as she falls.
The powder blinds Candice as she trains on the uneven bars, and she falls, with her body folding in half backwards, breaking her spine and more in front of her fellow gymnasts and Peter. The build-up to Candice’s death is quite tense, and her death is actually pretty quick, but it’s so graphic and shocking that it became one of the most unforgettable and brutal deaths in the Final Destination saga.
