The MCU has seen the Avengers start from a group of six to several dozen when they all fought together one last time in Avengers: Endgame. They became a diverse group of heroes, ranging from talking trees to literal gods, with varying ages and levels of power. The MCU timeline has seen it all, but there are some heroes that have experienced more than others. Despite all their differences, they were able to come together to defeat the greatest evil the universe had ever seen.

No matter what type of powers they may or may not have, the Avengers gave their all to defend Earth, losing some members along the way. Still, there are some that continued to fight despite their age, not letting that slow them down when it comes to avenging the world. Here are the ten oldest Avengers in the MCU.

10
Ant-Man – Likely Around 49
Ant-Man kicks off the list, coming in at around 49 years old. There is no actual confirmation of Scott Lang’s age in the MCU, but it is reasonable to assume that he is roughly around the same age as Paul Rudd, the actor who plays him. Paul Rudd was born in 1969, making him 54 years old in 2023, which is when Avengers: Endgame takes place. That isn’t quite the actual age of Ant-Man, though, for one specific reason.

This is where it gets a little tricky, since it was revealed at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp that Scott was trapped in the Quantum Realm for the five years between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. During this time, Scott Lang didn’t age, meaning he will still be the same age as he was in 2018, which is roughly 49 years old.
9
Hawkeye – Likely Around 52
Much like Ant-Man, the age of Hawkeye is never actually referenced in the MCU. Because of this, actor Jeremy Renner is the template for what to predict for his age. Scarlett Johansson’s character Black Widow was made the same age as her in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, meaning that it is most likely the same case for Hawkeye.
Given that Jeremy Renner was born in 1971, that would make Hawkeye 52 years old during the events of Avengers: Endgame. Unlike some other characters on this list, he wasn’t blipped, meaning he still aged during the five years since it happened. Hawkeye actually retired after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, but was brought back into the fold in Captain America: Civil War and then Endgame when his entire family was blipped out of existence.
8
Iron Man – 53
Robert Downey Jr. was the start of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing Tony Stark and Iron Man to life in ways many fans thought would never be possible. By the time Avengers: Endgame rolled around, Iron Man was the most essential part of the universe, and he made the ultimate sacrifice in order to stop Thanos. Tony Stark was 53 years old during that final fight with Thanos where he sacrificed himself.
Robert Downey Jr. was actually born in 1965 but was able to pass as a character slightly younger than himself.
Avengers: Endgame reveals that Tony Stark was born in 1970 after he travels back in time and meets his dad who is anxious about his child that was about to be born (who is Tony). Because Tony Stark didn’t get blipped in Avengers: Infinity War, he aged in those five years, making him older than Ant-Man, who was most likely born a year before him.
7
Hulk – 54
Alongside Iron Man and War Machine, Bruce Banner is in his mid-50s. He is actually slightly older than Tony Stark, as Bruce was born in December 1969. Like Iron Man and Hawkeye, the Hulk wasn’t snapped out of existence, meaning he continued to age during that five-year time jump. This puts Bruce Banner at 54 years old during the events of Avengers: Endgame.
It gets tricky when talking about how old the Hulk specifically is, since he is not the same age as Banner, but technically still is at the same time. By the time he is shown in Avengers: Endgame, Bruce Banner has made peace with the big green guy inside of him and can freely be the Hulk while still controlling his emotions.
6
War Machine – 50
Like Iron Man, Rhodey (War Machine) has been around since the beginning of the MCU. First appearing in Iron Man, the character was played by Terrence Howard but was replaced by Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2, who has played War Machine since. War Machine was born in 1968, making him two years older than Iron Man, and also one of the oldest Avengers to be on the team.

Terrence Howard, James Rhodes in Iron Man, was replaced by Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2 – before he could don the War Machine armor. Here’s why.

He was 55 years old during the events of Avengers: Endgame and was one of the characters that didn’t get blipped for five years. The MCU has done a decent job of hiring actors that are close to the same age as their characters, or at least born close to the same year. Don Cheadle was born in 1964, making him slightly older than his MCU character.

Captain Marvel – About 58
In the MCU, Captain Marvel was born in 1965, making her 58 years old once she battles it out against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. It might seem shocking to some given that Brie Larson is only 35 in real life, and doesn’t look close to 58 at all, but there is a good reason why Captain Marvel looks so much younger despite being one of the oldest Avengers.
ParagraphCaptain Marvel technically died in 1989, but she was brought back by receiving a Kree blood transfusion and the power of the Space Stone. Because she is now a Kree-human hybrid, she ages slower than a normal human, along with the effects of the Space Stone. This allows her to look and feel physically younger despite being technically much older. It was this change that also made her one of the most powerful heroes in the MCU.
4
Bucky – 101
This is where the Avengers’ ages really start to climb. Bucky was born in March 1917, and enlisted to fight in World War II. During Captain America: The First Avenger, Bucky dies. It wasn’t until Captain America: The Winter Soldier that it was revealed that he actually lived and was turned into an assassin by HYDRA, being cryogenically frozen between missions to ensure he lives for a very long time. Steve Rogers helps Bucky to break free from being controlled and is able to try and build a new life for himself.
Despite being born a year before his best friend Steve Rogers, Bucky is technically four years younger than him during the events of Avengers: Endgame because he was unfortunately one of the Avengers that got blipped out of existence. Taking that into account, Bucky is 101 years old during Avengers: Endgame.
3
Captain America – 105
Much like his best friend Bucky, Steve Rogers wanted to enlist in the military to fight during World War II. He was denied, but eventually became Captain America after being injected with a super soldier serum. This isn’t the reason Steve Rogers looks so much younger despite being one of the oldest Avengers, though.

In fact, Steve Rogers was 105 years old during the events of Avengers: Endgame. He was born in 1918, but after defeating Red Skull, Steve crashed the plane meant to destroy the U.S. into the ocean. He was frozen as a result of the action and wasn’t discovered for almost 70 years, allowing him to be in prime physical shape to become a member of the Avengers. After traveling through time to return the Infinity Stones, he decides to live a normal life like he never went into the ice, marrying Peggy Carter in the process.
2
Thor – At Least 1,500
The gap between Captain America and the two oldest Avengers is massive, and for good reason. Thor is an Asgardian and the God of Thunder, who lives much longer than a typical human being. In fact, Asgardians can live to be around 5,000 years old, give or take, which means Thor will be around long after most other Avengers are gone.
In Avengers: Infinity War, Thor tells Rocket Raccoon that he is 1,500 years old, easily making him the oldest member of the original Avengers and the second oldest by the end of Avengers: Endgame. It’s crazy to think that Thor has been around for so long in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, living for hundreds and hundreds of years before Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers and most of the others ever even existed.
1
Valkyrie – 1,500 +
Far and away, the oldest member of the Avengers is Valkyrie, who first appeared in Thor: Ragnarok. Valkyrie is a shield-maiden who was sworn to defend the throne of Asgard and operated long before Thor was even born. In fact, Thor remarks that he used to hear stories about them when he was a kid, indicating that Valkyrie is much older than he even is.
Of course, there is actual confirmation of how old Valkyrie is, but she is at least older than Thor and since she previously fought Hela prior to her return in Thor: Ragnarok, there is a good chance she is several thousand years old. Like Thor, she is Asgardian, meaning she still has a long time left. No matter what her actual age is, Valkyrie is easily the oldest member of the Avengers in the MCU.
