10 Weakest MCU Heroes I’m Convinced Could Still Kill Kang And Here’s How I Think They’d Do It

Kang the Conqueror was supposed to be the next great foe in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but after only a handful of appearances, the villain wound up displaying his vulnerabilities instead, showing that he could be beaten by these weaker MCU heroes. Despite Jonathan Majors leaving the role, there’s still potential for Kang to be recast in the MCU, even though he has been replaced as the main villain of Avengers: Doomsday. With this in mind, it is surprising how many MCU heroes could actually defeat Kang in combat.

The strongest Marvel villains have been terrifying and unstoppable forces. Thanos proved how much of a threat he was at the beginning of his first major appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, where he handily destroyed Hulk, killed Loki, and terrified Thor. Kang, meanwhile, spent his first appearances being defeated, first in Loki by Sylvie, then in his first major film appearance. While these defeats could arguably have been part of his multiversal plans, they do not help to establish his threat in the franchise, leading many to believe that even these heroes could beat Kang.

Scott Lang AKA Ant-Man

Already Proven By Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania

Close

Ant-Man is not one of the most terrifying forces in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the franchise broke a Marvel rule when it allowed Scott Lang to defeat Kang in combat. With the help of his team, Ant-Man was able to hold Kang at bay for long enough for his plan to be stopped, before defeating him altogether. This was an important and successful moment for the film, but has been a problem for the larger franchise.

Some believe that this MCU death was misunderstood, and that it was a whole confluence of things that defeated Kang, rather than Ant-Man himself. Still, the fact of the matter is that Kang was defeated by Ant-Man, regardless of what external details and forces that took. This has set a dangerous precedent for the franchise, suggesting that all kinds of heroes could fare well against the foe.

9

Howard the Duck

Howard’s Incredible Luck Could Get Him Through This Fight

Close

Howard the Duck is not one of the most powerful forces in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there are certainly circumstances in which it would seem that Kang could defeat him in combat. However, there are also many more where the duck, with his abilities in Quack-Fu, could rise against Kang. He beat the Band of the Bland in the comics, and Kang’s multiversal plots and efforts have been surprisingly similar to that group’s plans to squish and destroy universes.

With Howard the Duck serving as a Star-Lord replacement in the MCU, the character could make notable and significant contributions to the fight against Kang. He doesn’t have powers, but he has access to technology due to his relationships, especially to Darcy, and he is incredibly lucky. It is hard to imagine a story where Kang beats Howard, as the duck always tends to survive, and there are many cases where Howard could beat Kang.

8

Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye

Hawkeye’s Trick Arrows And Tech Could Outfit Him Well In This Fight

Close

Kang is blessed with the powers of incredible technology, but so is Clint Barton. While this would certainly be a tough matchup, and while Kang would generally have the edge, Clint could defeat Kang if the timing and his tools were right. Similar to how DC discussions of Batman’s prep-time are popular when detailing how Batman could beat incredible foes, the same could be said for Hawkeye.

Hawkeye has trick arrows that could help to deal with Kang’s technology and weapons from the future. Hawkeye is clever and tenacious, and an excellent fighter. While he may not be able to do much with his unpowered form in a hand-to-hand fight, Clint, with the right resources, could defeat Kang.

7

Frank Castle AKA The Punisher

With Great Weapons And Tenacity, Frank Castle Could Rise Above

Close

The Punisher has had an incredible comics history that saw the antihero defeating so many friends and foes. A one-shot, The Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe, showed clearly how well he could fare against some of the greatest threats in the MCU. He was able to kill Doctor Doom with a hammer, incinerate Magneto and Mister Sinister with a nuke, and kill Hulk with a gunshot to the head.

Kang is no greater a threat than any of these, and with the appropriate circumstances, the Punisher could prevail. While Kang’s technology is clearly more advanced than Castle’s, the iteration in the MCU has shown himself to be dynamic, adaptable, and relentlessly dedicated to his cause. Not quite as out there as his comic book counterpart, a fight between Kang and Castle in the MCU would take adaptation and planning, but it is likely that the Punisher’s cunning would allow him to prevail.

6

Bucky Barnes AKA The Winter Soldier

Outfitted With An Incredible Metal Arm

Close

Bucky Barnes just celebrated his 108th birthday, but it seems that the character is only growing stronger and more important in the MCU with age. He seems to have become a US congressman, which will grant him institutional power and access that could be useful in a fight. In addition to this, Bucky has a vibranium arm, which has been an excellent tool against any futuristic, cosmic, or mystical power in the MCU thus far.

With this weapon, and with the violent promise that it holds, Bucky could actually fight against Kang in hand-to-hand combat and more. Kang is clearly a good fighter, but Bucky’s ability to adapt throughout his fights, and to stand up consistently, could be paramount to winning in these circumstances. Simply, Bucky has sufficient equipment to fight Kang, and also has the appropriate knowhow and passion from his military and government experience.

5

Sam Wilson AKA Captain America

Incredible Tech And Was Able To Talk Down A Red Hulk

Close

Sam Wilson has proven in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that he is excellent at talking people down. His character ended The Falcon and the Winter Soldier by convincing US senators to “do better,” and his fight against the Red Hulk ended with him convincing the villain to calm down. Sam could likely defeat Kang in a similar fashion to some of the others on this list, with his incredible technology, but the character is actually smarter than that.

Instead, Sam would likely be able to prevail in his fight by convincing Kang against his own plans. While Kang is clearly brilliant, Sam has proven himself in the MCU to be a very convincing and passionate person that is able to reach the good in people. While some of the scripting for this wasn’t especially good, the results in the MCU speak for themselves. With this evidence, it seems likely that Sam would be able to defeat Kang through reason and passion.

4

Nick Fury

Planning And Teamwork Are Enormous For Fury

Close

Important to the franchise, Nick Fury has done some of the worst and best things in the MCU. A master military strategist, and a major force among the superheroes of the world, Fury has the tactical knowhow that would be required to take down someone like Kang. While Kang, too, is a genius, with access to the multiverse for his tactical plans and superpowered gadgets, Fury has a more grounded perspective that would allow him to prevail in any Earthbound setting.

In a one-on-one fight, with enough physical distance between the two, Fury could defeat Kang with his weapons and planning. Restricted to one plane, Fury knows better how to fight within it, and has all the powers and technology of the era at his disposal. As shown in Secret Invasion, Fury knows his vulnerabilities in a way that Kang refuses for himself. This would give Fury the advantage in this fight.

3

Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord

Dedicated And Passionate, Armed With Cosmic Technology

Close

Star-Lord is not one of the most powerful Marvel characters, but he did have access to some abilities due to his Celestial heritage. In addition to this, his gumption and drive have helped him to defeat all kinds of foes in the MCU. Peter Quill has one of the most human hearts in the entire franchise, and this innate goodness has helped him in his struggles against the best foes.

Facing Kang is a difficult task, since Kang has access to the multiverse, and the opportunity to know his foes well. However, Quill is a genuinely unpredictable force in the MCU, doing things both brilliant and foolish, oftentimes in the same scene. While his passion allowed him to ruin the fight against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, this brazen kind of unpredictable action, complemented by his cosmic weaponry, is exactly what would be needed to defeat a foe who knows the future.

2

Yelena Belova AKA Black Widow

A Dedicated Spy With Incredible Powers Of Will

Close

Most of Kang’s powers are granted by his technology, and spies like Yelena are built and educated in ways to counter all kinds of technology. Yelena is clever, strong, and passionate, and if given the chance to fight against Kang, she would likely be able to craft a plan that would be able to bring him down. This could take her Black Widow training and tools, and use them in a practical way.

With Thunderbolts* set to show more of Yelena against the wider powers of the MCU, the extent of her abilities is set to grow. With that said, she is still a greater physical threat than Ant-Man, and seems to have technological prowess that rivals his own. Yelena would be far more clever in hand-to-hand combat, and would be able to dispatch Kang, so long as the circumstances aligned properly.

1

John Walker AKA US Agent

Superhuman Strength And Something To Prove

Close

John Walker is an intelligent man and an excellent soldier who gained the super soldier powers of Captain America. These abilities on their own would give him much of the physical strength required to fight against Kang, but it is Walker’s tenacity and desire to prove himself that would distinguish him here. With the character playing a major part in the cast of Thunderbolts*, it is clear from the trailers that he wishes to redeem himself from his previous violent actions.

Fighting against Kang, Walker would have a dedication to his cause that would be hard for Kang to overcome. Kang is arrogant, and confident in his plans, in a way that does not account for the intricacies of human effort. With the right physical prowess, and with the desire and ability to sacrifice anything it took for the greater good, Walker would be able to take down Kang the Conqueror. He may die himself in the process, but he would eventually prevail.
