Introduction to Rabindranath Tagore
Rabindranath Tagore was a playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter. He was born on May 7, 1861. He was the youngest child of Sarada Devi and Debendranath Tagore. As a child, he participated in the Bengali Renaissance with his family. He began writing music and producing art around the same time. Using the alias Bhanusimha, he wrote the short story “Bhikharini” in 1877 and “Sandhya Sangit”, a collection of poems, in 1882.
After being inspired by Kalidasa’s poetry, he began composing his own classical poems. He entered literary history as the first non-European and author of the first words to receive the Nobel Prize in 1913 as the author of the poem “very sensitive, new fresh and beautiful” by Gitanjali. He transformed Indian art, literature and music with contextual modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
