After accidentally running all the way to New York, Sonic finds himself being attacked by a robotic version of himself. Things become much worse when Sonic realizes that there isn’t just one, with him instead having to face off against an army of Metal Sonics. Luckily, Amy Rose jumps in just in time to smash the robots with her hammer, saving Sonic and setting up the story of Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

In the games, Eggman Nega is a descendant of Eggman, with him coming from the future to stop Sonic. This would explain why a new villain is obsessed with Sonic, as well as allowing Jim Carrey to play another Robotnik, making this the perfect reveal for Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
