Though Star Wars has certainly kept details about The Mandalorian and Grogu movie tightly under wraps, there are still quite a few things we know about the story and the movie’s production. The Mandalorian and Grogu will be Star Wars’ next movie, and the franchise’s first since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Other than a small part of The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s cast, including The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal, the details of this movie are few and far between, aside from what The Mandalorian TV show itself has told us.

8 Pedro Pascal Is Officially On Set
Din Djarin Actor/Stunt Double Lateef Crowder Confirmed It
Close
In perhaps one of the most exciting updates so far, Pascal’s presence on set was recently confirmed by fellow Din Djarin actor Lateef Crowder, who performs most of the Mandalorian’s stunts. In an Instagram story that has since expired, Crowder captured himself heading to the set of The Mandalorian and Grogu, tagging Pascal’s Instagram at the bottom and saying “Stretch good Papa!” Given the fact that Pascal just wrapped filming on The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it was wholly unexpected that he would even get to be on set for this movie.

The Mandalorian’s story will continue with a Star Wars movie. Here’s everything we know about the project, including cast, release, and timeline.

Of course, this has led us to believe that there will indeed be at least one helmet-less Din Djarin scene included in The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is absolutely essential for its success. Not only is this due to Pascal’s talents with his facial acting, but also because Din’s face hasn’t been seen on-screen ever since The Mandalorian season 2 finale – which was, at the time of writing, nearly 4 years ago. Din’s face not being shown in The Mandalorian season 3 was a large point of contention, which makes Pascal’s presence on set even more promising.

There is, however, another more thrilling layer to this. With Crowder playfully encouraging Pascal to “stretch,” this makes it seem likely that Pascal himself will have to pull off some stunts in the Mandalorian’s beskar suit – which could mean that a helmet-less fight scene is in store. This would be the first time viewers would get to see something like that without Din’s helmet hiding his face, though this is purely speculation at this point.
7 Rotta The Hutt Is Returning
He Will Be Voiced By Jeremy Allen White
Close
Another more recent piece of news, and a very shocking one at that, is that Rotta the Hutt will have a role in The Mandalorian and Grogu. The son of Jabba the Hutt was first introduced in the 2008 animated movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which inspired the animated Star Wars TV show of the same name. Rotta hasn’t been seen ever since then, even after his father’s death, but he will apparently be making his return in The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Not only that, but Rotta will also be voiced by Jeremy Allen White, who’s most well known for his role as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in FX/Hulu’s The Bear. The announcement of this news sent the internet into a hilarious spiral, mostly because of how absurd it sounded at first for White to be voicing a character as obscure as Jabba the Hutt’s son. These reports, however, seem to insist that Rotta will have quite an influential role in the story, though it’s not yet clear exactly what that will look like.
6 An Imperial Warlord From The Mandalorian Season 3 Is Back
Jonny Coyne’s Warlord Could Be The Lead Villain
Close
The last piece of recent news is that a minor villainous figure from The Mandalorian season 3 will be returning in The Mandalorian and Grogu to, most likely, take on a more significant role. Jonny Coyne portrayed a character simply named “Imperial Warlord” on the Imperial Shadow Council in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 7 “Chapter 23: The Spies.” While he acted mostly as a background character in this scene, his inclusion in The Mandalorian and Grogu proves that he’s anything but insignificant.

The Imperial Shadow Council will no doubt be in a sort of disarray following the sudden death of Moff Gideon at the hands of the Mandalorians, as seen in The Mandalorian season 3’s ending. Now that Grand Admiral Thrawn has returned to the main Star Wars galaxy, however, he could be taking charge of the Imperial Shadow Council, and perhaps dealing out more tasks and responsibilities to these warlords. He could even be the one to approve Coyne’s warlord’s desire to target hyperspace lanes to cause appropriate chaos.

This character spoke of the advantages of plundering hyperspace lanes during this era of chaos, which has huge implications for this movie in retrospect. Currently, Star Wars is exploring the plundering of hyperspace lanes in the pirate-themed TV show Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, something it mentions directly in the show’s opening text. This could very well mean that by the end of its run, Skeleton Crew season 1 will have the proper setup for Coyne’s Imperial warlord to take the spotlight as a villain in The Mandalorian and Grogu.

It would no doubt be an absolute thrill to see pirates as a prime antagonist in a Star Wars movie, though this is again speculation at this time. Pirates have long since been a part of the Star Wars galaxy, but they’re rarely glimpsed in live-action. The Star Wars animated TV shows, most notably The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, go into great depth with pirates such as Hondo Ohnaka, and now The Mandalorian and Grogu may be doing these pirates another favor on the big screen.

4 Zeb Is Officially Back In The Mandalorian & Grogu
He Appeared In Exclusive Footage From The Movie
Close
Though it wasn’t too much of a surprise, given the character’s cameo in The Mandalorian season 3, it’s been confirmed that Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios of Rebels fame will be returning in The Mandalorian and Grogu. At this point in his life, Zeb is a New Republic official who trains new recruits from the Adelphi Outpost, the same home base as Captain Carson Teva. Considering that Din Djarin is technically a “new recruit,” albeit an unofficial contracted one, it makes sense that Zeb’s a part of his story.
Rarely do these characters ever get the chance to come to live-action, much less make it to the big screen in a Star Wars movie.

This is incredibly thrilling for anyone who enjoys Star Wars animation, but particularly Rebels. Rarely do these characters ever get the chance to come to live-action, much less make it to the big screen in a Star Wars movie. It’s incredibly exciting that Zeb will get to be a part of this movie in any capacity, though especially in a role such as this. His attitude will work well with Din Djarin’s, likely making the pair fast friends – and reliable allies.
3 Zeb Means Din Djarin Is Working With The New Republic Heroes From Adelphi Base
Din Djarin’s Network Of Allies Is Growing
Close
Speaking of the Adelphi Outpost, Zeb’s inclusion in the story seems to imply that more New Republic rangers based out of Adelphi will also be a part of Din Djarin’s story. Given how far removed Din sounded like he wanted to be from the rangers when he first made his offer to Captain Teva to work as an “independent contractor” type of bounty hunter, this is a promising sign of some character growth for him. Rather than working entirely alone, he’ll no doubt likely have to start relying more on their resources and personnel.

This could introduce audiences to a whole new array of New Republic heroes outside just Zeb and Captain Teva. Any friendships Din makes outside these two could raise the emotional stakes significantly in the heat of battle, which is a must-have in a movie of this scale. It would also add to Din’s ever-growing collection of random allies throughout the galaxy, giving him a good leg to stand on in just about any situation.
2 Din Djarin Is Likely Getting A New Razor Crest
Zeb Transported Din Djarin & Grogu In A Razor Crest In Movie Footage
Close
Almost more significant to some of us than Zeb himself in the exclusive movie footage shown at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event was the valiant return of the Razor Crest. It, of course, is not Din Djarin’s original Razor Crest, which was utterly demolished by Moff Gideon on Tython in The Mandalorian season 2, but it looks to be a very similar model. This is very promising to those who have been hoping that Din would get a bigger ship upgrade, as his N-1 starfighter no longer suits his growing family’s needs.

Footage of The Mandalorian & Grogu shown at D23 has revealed the return of Din Djarin’s Razor Crest vessel, but how can it possibly be back?

Din’s possible acquisition of a Razor Crest also seems to indicate his character arc to some degree in the movie. The original Razor Crest was destroyed as a symbol of Din’s old life being left behind, as he was no longer just a lone bounty hunter anymore – not after meeting Grogu. He had to rediscover himself, both without and with Grogu, and now that he’s done so, he can begin to return to those familiar things with a brand-new perspective, and a healthier one.

Din’s character arc isn’t the only one that’s been hinted at, however. It seems as if Grogu will also prove how much he’s grown in The Mandalorian and Grogu, as the movie footage shows Grogu going off on his own during a mission, as if he’s been tasked with his own assignments. This makes sense with what was established at the end of The Mandalorian season 3, as Din was tasked by the Armorer with taking Grogu on his apprentice journeys and training him as a Mandalorian apprentice.
Grogu’s training has clearly paid off enough for Din to trust him enough on his own. Grogu has certainly already proven himself in recent times, though; he saved his father’s life on two separate occasions, and the most recent time was just Grogu on his own, without any assistance aside from his IG-12 mech suit. It will be a thrill, no doubt, to see how Grogu continues to grow in The Mandalorian and Grogu, and how he has earned his independence in the time between the TV show and the movie.
The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters May 22, 2026.
