In Pete Travis’ 2012 cult classic Dreddeach judge fulfills a special function in the Justice Department of Mega-City One. Based on the popular British. Judge Dredd Comic book series, the action-packed sci-fi thriller follows Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) and probationary recruit Cassandra (Olivia Thirlby) as they work to eradicate tough crime in the sprawling futuristic metropolis that separates its population from a few United States. United States devastated by nuclear weapons. . When news of a growing drug empire comes back into focus, the pair are sent to one of the city’s most notorious slums to take down Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her gang.
The size of Mega-City One includes 800 million citizens living in an area stretching from Boston to Washington DC, with judges acting as judge, jury, and executioner based on the severity of crimes committed by citizens. Unconditional soldiers of impeccable character, they patrol the urban dystopia, dispensing justice and maintaining order while citizens fight to survive with increasingly scarce resources. While judges are held to an even higher standard than the average citizen, some abuse the privilege of their power and use the system to benefit themselves at the expense of the safety of others.
9 Judge Dredd
Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is a judge whose reputation for taking law and order to the extreme has made him feared. In both the movie and the comics, he never takes off his helmet, but he is able to convey a surprising amount of emotion without using his eyes. He has a hard job to do in a fragmented and volatile society, and he has a moral code that embodies the best qualities of a judge because he dispenses justice without prejudice, even when, as happens towards the end of Dredd, is forced to remove some of his own corrupt judges.
8 Judge Anderson

Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) is a rookie judge with psychic abilities assigned to Judge Dredd, and her ability to understand the inner thoughts of others makes her much more empathetic and personable than her partner. While Dredd is initially skeptical of her abilities as both a judge and psychic, her ability to read the minds of people they encounter in her investigation is invaluable. Although the two eventually eliminate Ma-Ma, Anderson believes that she failed his evaluation because one of her goons managed to disarm her at one point, but Dredd vouches for her and the head judge grants him official acceptance of her into the program.
7 Judge Volt
Judge Volt (Daniel Hadebe), like Judge Dredd, is an honest judge associated with Judge Guthrie and responds to Dredd’s SOS on the Peach Trees block where Ma-Ma and her gang imprison them. Volt is locked outside the building by Ma-Ma’s technician (Domnhall Gleeson), who uses war protocol to shut down all law enforcement access to the block. Later in the film, corrupt judges Chan, Lex, Alvarez, and Kaplan arrive at the Peach Trees block and relieve Volt and his partner of their duties but, having no reason to be suspicious, they retreat, nearly costing Dredd . and Anderson their lives.

6 Judge Guthrie
Along with his partner Judge Volt, Judge Guthrie (Francis Chouler) responds to Dredd’s dispatch calling for reinforcements on the Peach Trees block. Like Volt, Ma-Ma’s servant locked him outside, even though using War Protocols to seal the apartment building is a serious miscarriage of justice that could merit a firm prosecution and time in an isocube. Like Volt, he cannot question the presence of the other four judges who come to relieve them, particularly when they are let in without incident, which is suspicious in itself.
5 Judge Lex
Judge Lex (Langley Kirkwood) is a veteran of the Justice Department and has been patrolling the streets of Mega-City One for over twenty years, becoming increasingly disillusioned with the “meat mincer” of a city as time passes. The crime lords hire him as a mercenary to carry out their orders, which include keeping the rest of the Justice Department out of their business and then killing Judge Dredd for a hefty sum on Ma-Ma’s behalf. After he manages to shoot Dredd in the torso, he is almost ready to finish him off, but is permanently removed from the force by Judge Anderson.
4 Judge Kaplan
Like Judge Lex, Judge Kaplan (Michele Levin) believes that Mega-City One had become a place where the only way to get ahead is to become corrupt. She entered Ma-Ma’s payroll like the rest of her corrupt colleagues, and when she was ordered to shoot Dredd and Anderson she did not hesitate to follow orders. After Anderson escaped from one of Ma-Ma’s men, Kaplan went to hunt down his quarry, but when he expected to encounter a gullible rookie, he acquired a clever clairvoyant, and after reading Kaplan’s mind, Anderson knew he needed kill her
3 Judge Chan
Ma-Ma also bribes Judge Chan (Karl Thaning) to go after Judges Dredd and Anderson, proving to be a particularly volatile judge along the way. From shooting the block doctor in the head for possibly testifying against Ma-Ma to spontaneously attacking Anderson and blowing the cover of the corrupt judges, Chan quickly escalates situations, culminating in a wild hand-to-hand fight with Dredd. He nearly strangles Dredd against a wall until Dredd is able to knee him in the groin and subsequently use his Lawgiver pistol to shoot him in the foot and break his windpipe.
2 Judge Alvarez
Judge Alvarez (Edwin Perry), like Judges Lex, Kaplan and Chan, felt that the Department of Justice and Mega-City One had lost their way and preferred to be paid to carry out the will of the crime lords. Tasked with killing Dredd by Ma-Ma, Alvarez cornered him with Judge Lex in the drug lab, but Dredd was able to kill Alvarez just before he ran out of his gun. An exploding bullet shattered his head, giving weight to his previous line in the film: “Judges die in the line of duty.”
1 head judge
Although his name is never spoken and his role could be expanded if Dredd 2 Whenever it happens, the head judge (Rakie Ayola) is considered the head of the Council of Judges and the leader of the Department of Justice. He tasks Judge Dredd with determining whether Judge Anderson is truly fit to be a judge, knowing that if she can become his partner, he can survive the Judge program. She knows that Dredd is covering for Anderson to lose control of his gun when he decides that she passed her evaluation at the end of Dreddbut he trusts Dredd’s judgment enough to know that he must believe in the new recruit’s potential.
