After Avengers: Doomsday’s Cast Reveal, Here Are 11 Avengers vs X-Men Fights I’m Desperate To See In The MCU

It’s looking pretty likely that Avengers: Doomsday will partly be inspired by Avengers vs X-Men, pitting Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against mutantkind’s greatest defenders in the MCU. In the comics, the iconic Marvel teams clashed over the return of the Phoenix Force. However, the MCU will likely see the Avengers and X-Men fighting to save their respective realities in the multiverse, which could lead to some epic showdowns I’m desperate to see.

Following Marvel Studios’ major livestream event where 27 different actors were confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday’s cast, seven actors from Fox’s original X-Men timeline were also confirmed. Likewise, it’s been widely assumed that more characters will be added as well, setting the stage for what could be an exciting clash between two of Marvel’s biggest teams in the MCU. To that end, here are some of the biggest Avengers vs X-Men showdowns I’d love to see in Avengers: Doomsday, both from already confirmed characters and heroes I’m still hoping will be confirmed down the line.

Captain America vs Cyclops

A Clash Of Team Leaders

Close

Right off the bat, it would be very cool to see Sam Wilson Captain America facing off with Scott Summers’ Cyclops. Following the events of Captain America: Brave New World, it’s basically been confirmed that Sam will be leading an all-new roster of Avengers that has yet to assemble. As such, the chance to see the respective team leaders squaring off would be epic, and who wouldn’t want to see Captain America blocking optic blasts from Cyclops with the iconic shield?

Black Panther vs Gambit

Let’s Have Fun With Kinetic Energy

Close

It’s very exciting that Channing Tatum’s Gambit is set to return in Avengers: Doomsday, following his debut in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Having the power to charge an object with kinetic energy until it explodes, I think it would be fantastic to see Remy LeBeau’s Gambit fight Shuri’s Black Panther. After all, the Black Panther’s vibranium suit allows her to absorb and then expel kinetic energy outward as a major blast (Captain America’s wings have the same power too). With that in mind, I think a showdown between Remy and Shuri has some fantastic visual potential.

Invisible Woman vs Mystique

Where vs Who?

Close

Vanessa Kirby and Rebecca Romijn are both confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday as The Invisible Woman and Mystique, respectively. As such, we’ll have one superhero who can disappear at will and a mutant who can shapeshift and become anyone she wants at any given time. As such, it would be fascinating to see the two of them interacting in the upcoming MCU crossover, especially if they were pitted against each other.

8

Sentry vs Professor Xavier

Could Xavier Cure Sentry?

Close

Remarkably, Lewis Pullman’s Sentry has been confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, even though the darker manifestation of his personality known as The Void will likely overwhelm and corrupt the character in Thunderbolts*, as has been teased by the 2025 movie’s trailers. That being said, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X is one of the most powerful telepaths in the entire Marvel Universe. Perhaps Professor Charles Xavier can find a way to keep The Void at bay, not unlike the safeguards he put in Jean Grey’s mind to protect her from the power of the Phoenix.

7

Iron Man/Doctor Doom vs Magneto

Could Tony Withstand The Master of Magnetism?

Close

At the moment, it’s still unknown if Robert Downey Jr. is playing a genuine Victor von Doom, a Doom from another reality, a variant of Iron Man who was corrupted and takes the name Doctor Doom, or something in between. Assuming the dark Iron Man idea is proven true, it would be very exciting to see how he’d fare against Ian McKellen’s Magneto. Mirroring the original Avengers vs X-Men event, it would be cool to see Iron Man/Doom circumventing the Master of Magnetism by creating a non-magnetic suit as he does on the page, like when he made armor using carbon nanotubes.

6

Red Guardian & M’Baku vs Beast

An All-Out Brawl

Close

I’d also love to witness an epic face-off between some of the MCU and Fox universe’s biggest brawlers. It would be so cool to see David Harbour’s Red Guardian, Winston Duke’s M’Baku, and the X-Men’s Beast (Kelsey Grammer) going head to head. That said, Beast might have the advantage due to his impressive genius, even if he had to fight Red Guardian and M’baku at the same time. After all, Hank McCoy’s brains are just as big as his brawn, the first X-Men actor confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday.

Thor vs Storm

Who Truly Controls The Thunder?

Close

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor vs Storm is the biggest no-brainer when it comes to possible live-action Avengers vs X-Men fights in the MCU. While Halle Berry’s Mistress of the Elements has yet to be confirmed, Storm’s certainly a top contender when more X-Men are more than likely added to Avengers: Doomsday’s cast. The upcoming crossover is the perfect opportunity to see who has the greatest command over thunder itself.

4

Human Torch vs Ice Man

Classic Fire and Ice

Close

Shawn Ashmore’s Iceman is another X-Man I’d love to see added to Doomsday’s cast (who hasn’t yet). This is especially true given the potential to see Iceman face off with Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch. After all, fire and ice is a classic clash in any genre, and Avengers 5 seems like a great way to see these two diametrically powered heroes butting heads before eventually becoming allies, when and if the Avengers and X-Men end up uniting to fight a bigger multiversal threat (likely Doctor Doom himself).

3

Spider-Man vs Nightcrawler

Spider-Sense vs Teleportation

Close

How good is Spider-Man’s spider-sense in the MCU? There have already been some great moments, like in No Way Home when Tom Holland’s Peter Parker was able to sense the danger of the Green Goblin’s return over Norman Osborn’s mind. However, I would love to see if Spider-Man could anticipate when and where Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler was going to teleport next. Likewise, both heroes are extremely agile and acrobatic, so a potential showdown between the two heroes in Avengers: Doomsday would be an absolute visual feast.

2

Winter Soldier vs Wolverine

Living Weapons

Close

In the MCU, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes was captured by Hydra and turned into a living weapon for decades by the Soviets, known as The Winter Soldier who’s tried to redeem himself ever since he was freed of their brainwashing. Similarly, Hugh Jackman’s Logan was turned into a living weapon by the Weapon X program, seeking a life of redemption as an X-Man, and Wolverine even has a history with the Winter Soldier in the comics. As such, it’d certainly be cool to see Bucky contending with Logan’s adamantium claws with his own vibranium metal arm in Avengers: Doomsday.

1

Thing (and/or Hulk) vs Colossus

The Strongest There Is

Close

Avengers: Doomsday has a great opportunity to feature some of the strongest characters in the Marvel Universe. Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing has already been confirmed. However, it’s quite possible that both Mark Ruffalo’s Incredibile Hulk and perhaps the X-Men’s Colossus (Stefan Kapičić) could be featured in the upcoming crossover as well. To that end, one can only imagine how the ground would crack and the shockwaves that would be produced when and if some of Marvel’s biggest guns found themselves in a major brawl in the next Avengers movie.

Avengers: Doomsday releases May 1st, 2026 from Marvel Studios.
