One of the earliest roles that helped put Alexandra Shipp on people’s radar comes from a Nickelodeon show. House of Anubis is a teen series set in an English boarding school that delves into the secrets and mysteries of the young students residing there. Shipp joined the show in its third and final season but managed to make an impact as the new student KT Rush, who had secrets of her own.

The series took the approach of many British mystery series but stood out with its unique setting and a younger cast of characters. It turned the British series into an international hit which helped to introduce Shipp and her talents to a wide range of audiences, leading to her bigger roles in future projects. As Aaliyah Haughton

Alexandra Shipp as Aaliyah in Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B (2014)

In one of her earliest film, Alexandra Shipp not only showed that she could take on the lead role but also that she wasn’t intimidated by playing real-life icons. Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B stars Shipp as the ground-breaking and hugely successful artist Aaliyah whose music continues to live on following her tragic death in a plane crash in 2001. The series follows the talented musician through her rise to fame and collaborations with other artists.

Though the Lifetime movie did not bring the same kind of attention as a theatrical biopic of an artist like this, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B proved to be a breakout role for Shipp. Despite it being the early years of her career, she commands the role with complete confidence, showing the determination and passion Aaliyah had, which made her a star so early in her own career.

Having been raised from the dead, the ancient mutant Apocalypse wishes to wipe out all of humanity, and recruits four mutants including Magneto to help him in his quest, leading Xavier and his young team of X-Men to try and stop them. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender reprise their roles as Professor Xavier and Magneto, with a larger ensemble cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Olivia Munn, and Oscar Isaac.

Most people were likely introduced to Alexandra Shipp when she took over the role of Ororo Munroe, aka Storm, in the X-Men movies. Shipp makes her debut in X-Men: Apocalypse alongside Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, the ancient villain who is thought to be the world’s first mutant. As Xavier and his young team come together to try and stop this new threat, Apocalypse begins to assemble his own team of powerful mutants, including Storm.

X-Men: Apocalypse is far from the best movie of the comic book franchise as it is quite a messy adventure. However, there are some bright spots, including Shipp’s performance as Storm. One of the most beloved X-Men characters, Shipp had a daunting task in stepping into such a role, but she makes for the most impressive new addition to the cast.

Days before he’s due to showcase his work in a make-or-break performance, Jon is feeling the pressure from everywhere: from his girlfriend Susan, who dreams of an artistic life beyond New York City; from his friend Michael, who has moved on from his dream to a life of financial security; amidst an artistic community being ravaged by the AIDS epidemic.
