Bad Religion Overview

Bad Religion is a famous American punk rock band based in Los Angeles, formed in 1980, known for its profound lyrics covering religion, politics, society, media, and science. The band is led by stable member Greg Graffin, and its music is known for its melodic appeal and three-part harmonies. With long-time members such as Jay Bentley and Brett Gurewitz, Bad Religion has gone through several lineup changes over the years.

The band gained recognition in the 1980s and 1990s through critical acclaim on Brett Gurewitz’s record label Epitaph, before achieving mainstream success with Atlantic in 1993. Bad Religion played a key role in the punk rock revival, influencing bands such as Green Day and Offspring.

Despite a decline in popularity in the late ’90s, they returned to Epitaph in 2001 and re-emerged with hits like “Sorrow” and “Los Angeles Is Burning.” The band’s lasting influence is on full display on their 17th studio album, Age of Unreason, released in 2019, showcasing Bad Religion’s enduring legacy in punk rock.

Overview of Social Distortion

Social Distortion is an American punk rock band that formed in Fullerton, California in 1978 and has had a lasting impact on the music scene. The band is led by Mike Ness and currently consists of Jonny Wickersham, Brent Harding, David Hidalgo Jr. and David Kalish. The band was originally part of the Orange County hardcore music scene, but faced challenges in the mid-1980s due to personal difficulties of lead singer Mike Ness, which led to the temporary disbanding of the band.

After their comeback, Social Distortion transformed their punk sound, incorporating influences from country, blues, hard rock, and early rock and roll. Despite the changing lineup, Mike Ness has remained the only constant member throughout their 46-year history. With seven studio albums, two compilations, and a gold-certified 1990 self-titled album that featured hits like “Ball and Chain” and “Story of My Life,” Social Distortion is recognized as a major influence on punk rock.

Their latest studio album, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, was released in 2011, and fans are eagerly anticipating their upcoming eighth album, a project more than a decade in the making. The band continues to tour and secure their legendary status in the punk rock community.
