Borders Gate 3 Tomb of Thorns Puzzle Guide

In the context of Baldur’s Gate 3, Shar’s Challenge is a location associated with the “Daughter of Darkness” questline involving the character Shadowheart. In order to successfully complete this mission, it is crucial to have Shadowheart join your party. Additionally, Astario’s involvement will be important in dealing with the traps encountered throughout the region. The objectives of this mission are intricately tied to Astarion’s own “Pale Elf” questline.

To find Shar’s Challenge, you must venture into the underground portion of the Tomb of Thom. This tomb is located south of the Last Light Inn. Follow the road across the river to Reithwin Town and you’ll be on the right track.

Depart from the town of Liswein and head north. During your journey, you’ll come across a waypoint behind the cemetery. At this point, you’ll meet Raphael, a demonic character who makes a suggestion specifically for Astarion.

Raphael’s proposal revolves around his rival lurking within the dungeon. Your mission is to defeat this opponent. The Gauntlets of Shar serve as the backdrop for this confrontation, and your party’s combined skills, including Shadowheart’s presence in the Dark Daughter quest and Astarion’s assistance in dealing with traps, are essential to navigating and succeeding in the dungeon. Crucial.

Three-Button Puzzle Solution to the Tomb Puzzle

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the first puzzle of Shar’s challenge takes place in the Tomb of Thom. After reading a book, it becomes clear that the mystery involves General Somme’s life path: “from glory, to tragedy, to infamy.”

Once you reach the top room, you’ll find a coffin and three murals. Due to the presence of traps, as a precaution it is recommended to separate your party so that Astarion (if he has the highest karate skills) can successfully disarm them. You must then interact with the mural in a specific order:

Brilliance: Moonrise Tower Murals

  • The first mural depicts the Moonrise Pagoda.
  • This mural represents the “glorious” phase of General Somme’s life.

Tragedy: Thom mourns daughter mural

  • The second mural depicts General Somme in a sad pose, grieving for his dead daughter.
  • The mural symbolizes the “tragic” phase that General Thom went through.

Notorious: Thom Mural on the Throne

  • The third mural shows General Somme seated on a throne, projecting an air of malevolence onto the viewer.
  • The mural embodies the “shame” associated with General Somme’s actions.

Baldur’s Gate gameplay

Baldur’s Gate III is a role-playing video game that offers single-player and cooperative multiplayer modes. Players can choose to create one or more characters and form a team with computer-generated companions to begin the game’s story.

Additionally, players can team up with others online to form a co-op team using one of their characters. Compared with previous games in the Baldur’s Gate series, Baldur’s Gate III uses turn-based combat, similar to Larian Studios’ earlier games Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin II.

However, this time the combat system is based on the rules of the fifth edition of “Dungeons and Dragons”, adding depth and strategy to the game.
