India captain Rohit Sharma and third-order batsman Shubman Gill will miss the first Test against Australia, with Gill missing out due to a fractured finger.

In view of these developments, the BCCI on Sunday announced that top-order batsman Devdutt Padikkal, who played two four-day matches for India A, will be retained as a replacement batsman.
Vice-captain and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will lead the side in Rohit’s absence. Rohit, who recently became a father for the second time, told BCCI that he needs to spend more time with his family.
Padikkal will join the 18-member squad in place of Rohit Sharma for the first Test at Opus Stadium in Perth.
