At the time, he was a resident singer at Cowboys Dance Hall in Texas, and at the encouragement of Park Scott and Keith Swan, he auditioned for the show. After winning the competition, he signed with RCA Records Nashville.

In 2007, Chris Young released his self-titled debut album, which included his first single, “Drinkin’ Me Lonely.” Produced by Buddy Cannon, the album showcased his traditional country style.
