Commonwealth Games: Key Sports Removed from CWG 2026

The Commonwealth Games are an international multi-sport event held every four years, with participants from the Commonwealth of Nations (mainly composed of the countries of the former British Empire).

The most recent Commonwealth Games were held in Birmingham, England, from July 28 to August 8, 2022. This marks the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games, with 72 teams from different countries and regions competing in multiple sports.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games are scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland. This will be the fourth time Scotland has hosted the event, following Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The decision to host the Games in Glasgow was confirmed in September 2024 after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew from its bid due to logistical challenges.

However, there is one change coming to the 2026 Commonwealth Games: the 2026 Commonwealth Games will not include prestigious sports such as hockey, badminton, wrestling, cricket and shooting. This is done to cut costs and make the event more affordable.
