At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, India sent 54 athletes to compete and won a staggering 19 medals, including 5 gold medals.

However, at the recent Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, India showcased its commitment to para sports by sending a total of 84 athletes, winning 29 medals, including 7 gold, 9 silver and 13 bronze.

The disabled athlete who has been achieving great results in his respective events is Harvinder Singh, who won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. This time he created history by becoming the first Indian archer to win a gold medal at the Paralympic Games.

Another standout performer was Avani Lekhara, who won a gold and a bronze in shooting in Tokyo and added another gold in Paris.

Similarly, Sumit Antil, who won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, won gold again at the 2024 Paris Paralympics with a new world record in the javelin throw.

In addition, Yogesh Katunia and Nishad Kumar, who won silver medals at the last 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, won silver medals again in the discus and high jump events respectively at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

Mariyappan Thangavelu, who also won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, missed out on the chance this time but ended up winning a bronze medal in the high jump at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Similarly, Devendra Jhajharia, who won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, also won bronze in the javelin event in Paris.

Sharad Kumar won a bronze medal at the last Paralympic Games in 2020 and this time won a silver medal in the high jump at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, showing his consistency at the elite level.

Similarly, Suhas Yathiraj, who won a silver medal at the 2020 Paralympics, continued his success by winning a silver medal in badminton at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

How can we forget our gold medal star Manish Nawal, who won the gold medal in the shooting event at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, adding another extraordinary achievement to his already impressive career.

However, many Paralympic athletes competed in Tokyo 2020 but failed to qualify for Paris 2024. These athletes include Singhraj Adana, who won silver and bronze in the men’s 50m pistol SH1 and men’s 10m air pistol SH1 events respectively.

Next up were Pramod Bhagat who won the gold in men’s singles badminton SL3 and Devendra Jhajharia who won the silver in men’s javelin F46.

These athletes have all demonstrated extraordinary dedication and skill in their respective sports and are true role models for aspiring Paralympic athletes around the world. Their achievements have undoubtedly had a lasting impact on the world of Para sport.
