The first Indian biopic to become a huge success at the box office was MS Dhoni: The Untold Story starring Sushant Singh Rajput. The film was a super hit and started a new trend for sports biopics in Indian cinema. However, the trend was soon repeated.

Then came Sachin: A Billion Dreams, a biopic about the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Despite Sachin’s god-like status in India, the film failed to make a significant impact at the box office. Later, Ranveer Singh-starrer 83 was released, which narrated India’s historic win in the 1983 Cricket World Cup and highlighted the achievements of Kapil Dev. Unfortunately, despite its grand premise, the film turned out to be one of the biggest box office flops in recent years.
