David Foster was born in Victoria, British Columbia, the son of Maurice “Morrie” Foster, an office worker, and Eleanor Mae Foster (née Van Treat). A dedicated housewife. His musical journey began at a young age, when in 1963, at the age of 13, he enrolled in music classes at the University of Washington. Seeking mentorship and guidance, he auditioned as bandleader at an Edmonton nightclub owned by jazz musician Tommy Banks, who became a Influence, mentoring Foster on the complexities of jazz, music production, and the music industry.
After a year under Banks’ tutelage, Foster moved to Toronto, where he joined forces with Ronnie Hawkins. In 1966, he became a member of the legendary Chuck Berry’s backup band, marking a critical step in the budding career of his music career. In 1974, pursuing his passion for music, Foster came to Los Angeles and ventured out with his band Skylark to further explore and contribute to the music industry.
