dead island 2
“Dead Island 2” will be released in 2023. It is an action role-playing game developed by Dambuster Studios and published by Deep Silver. As the sequel to the 2011 original “Dead Island” and the third major entry in the series, the game is set in a quarantined Los Angeles amid a zombie outbreak, approximately 15 years after the events of the previous game.
The game had a rather rocky launch, taking over eight years to develop. It was first announced in 2014, but progress was hampered by various changes and shifts at the studio. Yager Development initially took charge of the project in 2012, but was later replaced by Sumo Digital in 2015. After another change, Deep Silver’s in-house studio Dambuster took over in 2019.
Despite a long and challenging development history, Dead Island 2 received positive feedback from critics upon launch and sold over 2 million copies by May 2023. It introduces players to a fresh, zombie-infested vision of the iconic city of Los Angeles.
Dead Island 2 gameplay
“Dead Island 2”, like its predecessor, is an action role-playing game experienced from a first-person perspective. The game unfolds amid the chaos of a zombie apocalypse in Los Angeles. At the beginning of the game, the player must choose one of six playable characters (called “killers”), each with unique skills and abilities. Additionally, players must choose between defensive abilities, choosing to block hostile attacks or dodge attacks.
The game world is divided into ten different areas, which players can explore freely, but need to use area exits to move between areas. As players progress, they unlock fast travel points for easy travel to different locations.

Weapons, whether ranged or melee, can be used and further customized through mods to add elemental effects and extra abilities to alter the player’s statistics. Dead Island 2 features the “FLESH” system, a procedurally generated dismemberment system that realistically harms zombies, including breaking their skin, bones, and internal organs.
Weapons come in different rarities, with rare and advanced weapons generally being more powerful. Players can also take advantage of the environment, such as using electric weapons to shock enemies standing in puddles. Weapons degrade and may become damaged, but can be repaired at an in-game workbench.
Unlike earlier games in the series, Dead Island 2 does not feature skill trees. Instead, it utilizes a deck-building system where players can modify their character’s strengths and weaknesses. The system includes ability cards, survivor cards, killer cards and soul cards.
Abilities grant new active skills, some of which can be used in berserk mode for devastating attacks. Survival cards can enhance health and endurance, killer cards can provide passive combat abilities, and soul cards can unlock high-damage special abilities.
Additionally, players can equip the “Autophagy” card, which provides an advantage while introducing debuffs that make the character weaker. Cards can be obtained by completing missions, leveling up, and defeating special enemies.
