Diablo IV just announced a new expansion, The Ships of Hatred, which will be released on October 8, 2024. The announcement offers pre-order bonuses to all players (or should I say Nephalems) as well as other exciting editions that include various cosmetic items, premium currency, and more. Diablo IV: Ship of Hatred Edition
The Ships of Hatred expansion for Diablo IV is available in three different editions: Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Ultimate Edition. If you pre-order now, you’ll receive a pre-order bonus no matter which edition you purchase.
Diablo IV: The Ship of Hatred Standard Edition
The Standard Edition only comes with the base game. However, if you pre-order, you’ll receive the following bonuses:

The Deluxe Edition also comes with the same pre-order bonuses plus the following:

- One Premium Battle Pass Token
It’s worth noting that the premium battle pass token says “One” on it, which means you can only claim one battle pass in a single season.
Diablo IV: The Ship of Hatred Ultimate Edition
The Ultimate Edition is the highest version available and includes the following bonuses:
- All Deluxe Edition Rewards
- 3,000 Platinum
- Natalia, tiger pet
- Nahantu Unearthed Armor Pack (full set of five pieces of armor)
- Wings of Faith Ornament
- Nahantu Theme Town Portal
3,000 Platinum is a bit generous, since only 666 Platinum came from the free Battle Pass when the game first launched. This time around, you’ll get 3,000 Platinum, along with another Battle Pass that may contain more Platinum. If you’ve played the game before, their Class Set cosmetics cost a whopping 2,000 Platinum. Now, you can choose to buy the cosmetics you want from the store, or buy multiple Battle Passes if you plan on playing multiple seasons.
Is Diablo IV: The Ship of Hatred an expansion pack or DLC?
Diablo IV: The Ship of Hatred is an expansion pack, but it also falls into the category of DLC. After all, it is downloadable content. However, expansion packs are usually meant to be a continuation of the original story. Diablo IV’s The Ship of Hatred continues the story of Neyrelle’s journey through Sanctuary. Neyrelle possesses the Soul Stone that belonged to the evil lord Mephisto.
In the base game, you’ve already caught glimpses of Mephisto throughout the campaign. He even tried to influence you before he engaged Lilith in battle. Now, Neril travels to a new region, Nahantu, a jungle soaked in blood and darkness.
The expansion also introduces a new class, the Elves, which thematically fits in nicely with the new region. The mercenary system also returns to Diablo IV, including a new multifaceted dungeon that requires teamwork to overcome challenges. In a way, all of these additions are what separate the expansion from a simple marketing DLC.
