Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s 10 Best Movies And TV Shows

One of the most underrated actors working in Hollywood right now, Ebon Moss-Bachrach has steadily built on an impressive resume of movies and TV shows throughout his career. Getting his start in 1999 with the TV movie Murder in a Small Town, Ebon Moss-Bachrach appeared in a variety of roles in television and film before his big break with a recurring role in the HBO dramedy, Girls. After that, he has appeared in several major franchises, including The Punisher and Andor, and his superb role in The Bear has earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s career is set to go to even greater heights as he plays the Thing in the MCU’s first attempt at The Fantastic Four, set to be released in July 2025, alongside an incredible cast of characters. With an undeniable likability and charm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach excels with complex (and often funny) characters that end up being some of the best parts of the projects he is involved in, often alongside incredible actors.

The Last Ship centers on a global pandemic that wipes out 80% of the population, where an unaffected ship must try to find a cure to save humanity. Running for five seasons, The Last Ship was entertaining television, with plenty of crowd-pleasing action that allows for a fun binge-watch. It’s not the most complex show in the world, but it’s a great premise with a fantastic cast of characters.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is no exception either, playing Niels Sørensen for the first two seasons of the show. Known as “Patient Zero,” Niels Sørensen is a Norwegian scientist that tested the virus on himself to test his immunity and was the cause of the pandemic. Highly selfish and narcissistic, Niels Sørensen makes a fantastic antagonist for the first few seasons of The Last Ship, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is incredible in the role.

Based on the novel of the same name by Joe Hill, NOS4A2 tells the story of an artist named Victoria McQueen, who uses her supernatural abilities to track down Charlie Manx, a seemingly immortal vampire. Filled with a variety of references to Stephen King’s work, NOS4A2 is a great adaptation of a fantastic book, filled with some great atmosphere and a deliciously wicked performance from Zachary Quinto as Charlie Manx. It’s an effective supernatural horror series that gives horror fans plenty to enjoy.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is fantastic in NOS4A2, playing Chris McQueen, father of Victoria McQueen. Their relationship is one of the central aspects of the entire show and Moss-Bachrach does an admirable job in the role, making viewers care about their father-daughter relationship, which plays an even bigger role in the final arc of the series. The actor’s natural talent is on full display with each and every scene that he is in.

No Hard Feelings is a hilarious comedy starring Jennifer Lawrence about a woman who is hired by two parents to seduce their son. While the premise might seem ridiculous, Lawrence’s commitment to the role makes for a fun watch, with some funny hijinks thrown in for good measure. It is one of the funnier studio comedies of the 2020s and hearkens back to a raunchier time in the genre, not holding back whatsoever.

It is one of the funnier studio comedies of the 2020s and hearkens back to a raunchier time in the genre.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach doesn’t have a huge role in the film, but he is incredibly funny with the screen time he has playing Gary, a tow truck driver who was once involved romantically with Jennifer Lawrence’s character before she ghosted him. His character plays a significant role in the opening of the film and his natural charm makes for some genuinely funny moments with Lawrence as the two share some great comedy chemistry together.

After successfully appearing in Daredevil with a truly outstanding performance by Jon Bernthal as the character, Frank Castle received his own series with The Punisher, which ran for two seasons before Netflix canceled their Marvel universe. The series explored Frank Castle as a character to impressive depths, while also not holding back on the violence a name like The Punisher brings to the table. It’s not the best series in The Defenders Saga, but it is still really great with some standout performances.

There is an interesting contrast between Bernthal and Moss-Bachrach’s characters that the two highly-skilled actors explore to great effect, making each interaction of theirs some of the best in the entire series. It’s also an early look at Bernthal and Moss-Bachrach ahead of The Bear.

Chronicling the rise and fall of Theranos, a biotechnology company, and its founder Elizabeth Holmes, The Dropout is a fantastic miniseries featuring some outstanding performances, notably Amanda Seyfried as Holmes. The Dropout is often hilarious, and its ability to explore the life of Elizabeth Holmes and her company. The series earned several Emmy nominations, including a win for Amanda Seyfried, making it the best performance of her career.

Like every performance of his, Ebon Moss-Bachrach is also very good in The Dropout as John Carreyrou, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal who was the one to expose the fraud of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos. Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Carreyrou plays an essential part in the story towards the end of the series and the actor plays it perfectly, really highlighting how important John Carreyrou’s uncovering of the truth actually was.

Exploring Cassian Andor’s life leading up to his ultimate fate in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the prequel series exceeded all expectations. Arguably the most politically complex Star Wars has ever been, Andor was a fascinating look at how rebellion begins to take shape under the weight of a crushing regime. It features incredibly complex, well-defined characters and some of the most beautiful looking moments in the entire franchise, making it one of the best Star Wars TV shows.

The second season of Andor is supposed to lead directly into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, further fleshing out Cassian’s role in the rebellion.

Though he is only in it for a three-episode story arc, Ebon Moss-Bachrach is fantastic as Arvel Skeen, one of the team members attempting to carry out a heist on Aldhani. Arvel Skeen was essentially looking out for himself, and tried to convince Andor to flee with the haul and split the credits while abandoning the rest of the team. Because of this, Andor killed him. Like the rest of the characters in Andor, Arvel Skeen was a complicated character with shifting morality and Ebon Moss-Bachrach nailed his performance in every way.

Created by and starring Lena Dunham, Girls is a funny and heartfelt look at four young women navigating life and relationships in New York City. The characters in the show are well-developed, feeling like authentic people with realistic goals, dreams, and relationships. It’s one of the best HBO dramedies of all time. It also featured some breakout roles for several actors, including Adam Driver, who has gone on to be one of Hollywood’s most versatile performers.

Adam Driver wasn’t the only actor that had his breakout role in Girls, as Ebon Moss-Bachrach was in the same boat, delivering a spectacular performance as Desi Harperin, initially appearing in season three before being promoted to main cast in season four and beyond. He eventually marries Allison Williams’ Marnie before their relationship ultimately falls apart. Desi is a pretty insufferable character and Ebon Moss-Bachrach delivers on every front, showing off his incredible talent.

Premiering in 2022, The Bear is one of the best shows on television right now, with three outstanding seasons so far. Featuring a mostly dysfunctional restaurant in Chicago, The Bear is simultaneously hilarious and anxiety-inducing with some incredible performances featured throughout. Winning numerous awards during its run so far, The Bear is one of the best modern TV shows of all time, and all the characters featured throughout are some of the most vibrant on television.

This includes Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Richie, the loudmouthed and highly opinionated de facto manager of the restaurant. Richie was abrasive during the beginning of the series, but has since become one of the show’s most beloved characters, playing the character with incredible nuance. There is a lot of depth to Richie and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is able to tap into that while also remaining the funniest character in The Bear.
