Erin is a 2023 thriller film directed by William Oldroyd. The film is based on the 2015 book of the same name by Ottessa Moshfegh, who also helped write the film with her husband, Luke Goebel. The main cast includes Thomasin McKenzie, Shea Whigham, Marin Ireland, Owen Teague and Anne Hathaway. Set in 1960s Massachusetts, the story follows the relationship between two women who work at a center for troubled youth.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2023, and was subsequently released by Neon in select theaters in the United States on December 1, 2023. It was followed by a wider release on December 8, 2023. People who watched it loved it, and critics gave it positive reviews.

In 1960s Massachusetts, Eileen Dunlop worked at a juvenile detention center for boys. However, her work environment was not welcoming as she was isolated and ignored by her colleagues. Her thoughts often wander to a guard, and she fantasizes about a life different from her current struggles.
Outside of work, Erin faces additional challenges at home, where she lives with her widowed and alcoholic father, Jim. Unfortunately, their relationship was strained and Jim was emotionally abused and struggled with paranoia. The heavy situation caused Eileen to often have dark thoughts, thinking about her own death and that of her troubled father.
