Based on the novel of the same name by author Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees is a solid adaptation of its source material, telling the story of a 14-year-old girl who runs away with her friend and caregiver to a South Carolina town where she discovers her mother’s past. The Secret Life of Bees is a poignant, often heartwarming look at friendship and family.

The Secret Life of Bees was the first acting role for Emily Alyn Lind, following in her mother’s footsteps. Because it was her first role, it isn’t the most substantial of her career, playing the younger version of Dakota Fanning’s Lily Owens. Still, Emily Alyn Lind does a great job in her first role, giving her best in each scene that she is in, a good start for an already impressive career.

Though not as good as its predecessor, The Babysitter: Killer Queen is still a bloody fun time, featuring all the gore and funny moments that the franchise is known for. The film takes place two years after The Babysitter, as the main character, Cole Johnson, once again tries to survive as he is hunted by demonic forces. The Babysitter: Killer Queen doesn’t try and pretend it is something that it’s not, leaning into the absurdity of its premise, making an entertaining horror film in the process.

There is still a possibility that The Babysitter 3 could happen, though there is no concrete confirmation of it being in development.

Emily Alyn Lind returns in The Babysitter: Killer Queen as Melanie, Cole Johnson’s best friend who eventually becomes his arch-enemy over the course of the film. Emily Alyn Lind understands her assignment in The Babysitter: Killer Queen, crafting a delightfully entertaining performance as she has much more to do compared to her initial outing as the character.

Gaspar Noé is an Argentine filmmaker who primarily works in the French film industry, crafting movies that are often associated with the New French Extremity wave, that focus on violence, sexuality, and explicit imagery. Enter the Void fits right in with that concept, taking place in Tokyo as a young American drug dealer watches the events during an out-of-body experience after getting shot and killed. It’s a trippy film that oozes style which has become a staple of Gaspar Noé’s filmography.

Enter the Void was another early role in Emily Alyn Lind’s career, just one year after she got her start in The Secret Life of Bees. In Enter the Void she plays the younger version of Paz de la Huerta’s Linda, the main character of the film. She once again doesn’t have a large role, but just being in a Gaspar Noé film so early in her career feels like a significant step forward for her as an actress.

The original Gossip Girl was a staple of The CW from the late-2000s to the early-2010s, featuring all the petty character interactions associated with the teenagers of the Upper East Side. When a Gossip Girl reboot was announced, it was met with both excitement and trepidation, as it had a lot to live up to. The second season of the new Gossip Girl was a significant step up from the first, really coming into its own and finding its own identity. Unfortunately, the series was cut short, but it is still worth a watch.

Gossip Girl has been the most significant role of Emily Alyn Lind’s career to this point, playing Audrey Hope, one of the main characters and an integral part of the friend group. She is dating Aki, but has an interest in Max, setting off a fiery romantic triangle that gets very messy. Emily Alyn Lind is fantastic as the dismissive Audrey Hope, giving her a quietly mean edge that often feels like a toned-down version of Blair Waldorf from the original series.

Running for four seasons, Revenge is a solid television series that follows a young woman who sets out to exact revenge against the people who wronged her father. It is inspired by the novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas. Often dramatic and thrilling, Revenge is entertaining all the way through, looking at the concept of revenge and how it affects a person. It’s not the most mind-blowing TV series ever made, but it can be addicting to watch.

Gleefully violent and often absurd, The Babysitter is about a 12-year-old boy named Cole, who has a crush on his babysitter, only to learn that she is part of a satanic cult that wants to kill him. With a killer performance from Samara Weaving, The Babysitter is a highly entertaining comedy horror film that is quite stylish throughout, also employing meta-commentary to make it even funnier, something that has become sort of a staple of the genre.

Emily Alyn Lind plays Melanie in The Babysitter, a close friend and neighbor of Cole who secretly has a crush on him that encourages him to spy on Samara Weaving’s Bee. Melanie isn’t the most fleshed-out character in the movie, but Emily Alyn Lind gives a great performance, and is able to give her character even more depth in the sequel, building off the solid foundation she set in The Babysitter.

Hidden is an underrated psychological thriller written and directed by the Duffer Brothers, widely known for their work as the creators of Netflix’s mega-hit Stranger Things. Hidden tells the story of a family living in a fallout shelter following a strange outbreak, and they are faced with a mysterious threat from the outside. Despite being the feature film debut for the Duffer Brothers, they prove they can tell a story in a much shorter length of time, crafting a thrilling film that is often gutwrenching.

Emily Alyn Lind plays Zoe in Hidden, the daughter of Alexander Skarsgård’s Ray and Andrea Riseborough’s Claire. As the film mostly revolves around their family, they are given a lot of strong material to work with for their performances and Emily Alyn Lind does an admirable job in her role. She doesn’t feel out of place compared to the other fantastic actors around her, proving that she is more than capable of having more significant roles at this point in her career.

Often falling through the cracks when talking about sitcoms, Suburgatory is incredibly underrated, and also incredibly funny, with a stellar performance by Jane Levy as Tessa Altman. The series revolves around a dad who decides to move his daughter and himself to the suburbs from New York City after discovering a box of condoms in her drawer. It’s a somewhat silly premise, but it is a great series, with a satirical edge and hilarious jokes throughout.

Emily Alyn Lind doesn’t play a major role in Suburgatory at all. In fact, she only appears in one episode as Nadia Nergen, a minor character even within the episode. Still, it is one of the best shows in Emily Alyn Lind’s filmography, and she does a solid job with the screen time she is given on the show.

Lights Out was the directorial debut of David F. Sanderson and was based on his short film of the same name. The movie doesn’t miss a beat when stretching out its premise to feature length, as it contains some incredibly tense and scary moments throughout its runtime. Lights Out follows a woman who tries to protect her half-brother from a spirit that kills its victims in the dark. The nature of the narrative provides haunting moments where the anticipation of what will appear on-screen once the lights are turned on, can easily put anyone on the edge of their seat.

Emily Alyn Lind once again plays a younger version of a character. This time she plays Sophie as a teenager, the mother of Teresa Palmer’s Rebecca and Gabriel Bateman’s Martin. The film occasionally includes flashbacks, which is where Emily Alyn Lind comes in, giving an incredible performance in each moment that she is on-screen.

Adapting the novel of the same name while simultaneously acting as a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is no easy task, but Mike Flanagan pulls it off with Doctor Sleep. The film tells the story of Dan Torrance as an adult, haunted by his past and the trauma he experienced during his time at the overlook hotel. Not as scary as The Shining, Doctor Sleep takes the story in a much different direction with a focus on the psychic abilities of several characters. It’s a remarkable achievement and one of the best Stephen King adaptations of all time.

Emily Alyn Lind plays Snakebite Andi, a member of the True Knot, a cult that feeds off of people who have psychic powers. Snakebite Andi is able to physically control people, making her a dangerous member of the cult. Emily Alyn Lind does a spectacular job playing the character, obviously having a great time playing a villain, something she hasn’t done much throughout her career, making it one of the best performances in her filmography.
