FREE Aadhaar Update Till This Date: Check Which Services are Paid By UIDAI

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that free update service for Aadhaar cards will be available by December 14, 2024. Individuals can update important demographic details such as name, address and phone number for free. After this date, a fee will be charged to process updates.

However, biometric updates (such as fingerprint or iris scan) require a physical visit to an Aadhaar center for updating.

Fees after deadline:

  • Online renewal fee is Rs. 25
  • The fee for updating at the Aadhaar physical center is Rs 50.

How to update Aadhaar online

Updating your Aadhaar details online is easy:

  1. Access My Aadhaar Portal: Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
  2. Login: Enter your Aadhaar number and authenticate using the one-time password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number.
  3. Select update options: Select the type of update you want to perform.
  4. Upload files: Provide scanned copies of necessary files (in JPEG, PNG or PDF format, less than 2 MB).
  5. Submit a request: After reviewing your information, submit your request.
  6. Track your request: Note the Service Request Number (SRN) to track the status of your updates

To renew your Aadhaar card online, you need to provide certain documents as Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA). Below is a detailed list of required documents:

Documents required for Aadhaar update

Proof of Identity (POI)

You can submit any of the following documents as proof of identity:

  • passport
  • Voter ID card
  • driver’s license
  • PAN card/e-PAN
  • ration card
  • Transfer certificate with photo
  • Transcript or certificate with photo issued by a recognized board/university
  • Government-issued photo ID (e.g. CGHS card, weapons license)

Proof of address (POA)

For address updates, you can provide any of the following documents:

  • passport
  • Bank statement or passbook (not older than 3 months)
  • Electricity bill (not older than 3 months)
  • Water bill (not older than 3 months)
  • Gas connection bill (not older than 3 months)
  • Property tax receipt (not older than 1 year)
  • Proof of residence or proof of residence
  • Photo letterhead signed by bank or registered company

Accepts common documents for POI and POA

Some files can serve as both POI and POA:

  • ration card
  • Voter ID card
  • driver’s license

Attached files

For specific cases, other documents may be accepted:

  • NREGA Job Card
  • pensioner card
  • Certificate issued by Gazetted Officer or Tehsildar in UIDAI standard format

Why you need to update Aadhaar

It ensures that correct records are kept. These correct records facilitate smooth access to government and private services and prevent identity-related fraud. UIDAI requires people to update their Aadhaar details for at least ten years and whenever they change their information. This free update service is still a few days away. People must now take the initiative to ensure that their Aadhaar information is up to date and accurate.
