Full Circle Episode 2 Review and Ending Explained

In the second episode of Full Circle, “The Charger,” Ed Solomon and Steven Soderbergh prove that it’s indeed possible to create a riveting thriller in the age of the mobile phone. They cleverly integrated smartphone use into the storyline, using it to enhance drama and suspense.

The episode centers around the goal of reaching Washington Square Park, where the murders took place. The intended victim is Nikki, a homeless teen who is mistaken for the celebrity chef’s grandson, Jared.

Throughout the plot, various characters gather in the park, each with their own motivations and connection to the events taking place. The main characters in this episode include the kidnappers Akade, Xavier, Louis and Kitson.

Ackerd, the titular boss, is frustrated by his lack of knowledge of the details of the operation. Xavier and Louis, on the other hand, want to prevent the murders that are expected to end the kidnapping. Meanwhile, Kitson appears to be an innocent bystander in trouble.

Garmen and Paul were advisors and captains of the operation, playing a vital role in ensuring the plan went smoothly. Garmen discovers a card from Postal Inspector Mel to Xavier, and they show up at the park to oversee the process.

However, a case of mistaken identity leads to Kitson’s death, in which they mistakenly believe that Kitson is the owner of the card. Furthermore, despite Garman’s protests and demand for more information, his boss, Mrs. Mahabir, removed Garman from the business.

Louis’ sister Natalia becomes a key figure in the bike swap and serves as bait for the kidnappers. She switches the delivery bike carrying the acupuncture mannequin with the bike Louis used to transport the unconscious Nikki’s body. The plan goes smoothly and Victor, the executioner, shoots the “boy” in the box.

Impulsive Postal Inspector Mel pursues the case against his superiors’ orders and finds himself embroiled in the unfolding events. She was involved in phone conversations, including a breakup message from girlfriend Carol and a fiery message to Xavier about his failure as a confidential informant.

The episode also introduces the wizard Walby, who takes part in rituals performed within the Chalk Circle. Mrs. Mahabir’s chess friend Clarence was also present at the ceremony. This news makes their connection even more interesting, as Clarence was previously seen as Chef Jeff’s chess partner in the park during the premiere.

This connection suggests there’s more going on beneath the surface. As the plot progresses, protagonist Derek finds himself caught up in the chaos orchestrated by the kidnappers.

As he was being taken to Manhattan, he realized his cell phone battery was running low. In a similar incident, despite purchasing a charger, he failed to charge his phone properly, leading to a series of unforeseen circumstances. Eventually, he reported everything to the FBI and returned home, shocked, exhausted, scared and guilty.

Ed Solomon’s script delivers the message effectively at just the right moments, maintaining suspense and keeping the audience engaged. The use of mobile phones to create tension is a prominent element, depicting relatable experiences such as the frustration of not being able to reach someone, leaving frantic messages, or running out of battery.

Steven Soderbergh’s direction and his role as cinematographer and editor bring all the moving parts together seamlessly. The episode ended with viewers curious about where the series will go next.
