Giorgia Whigham’s 10 Best Movies And TV Shows

Giorgia Whigham

is the daughter of veteran actor Shea Whigham, so acting is in her blood. Since she started acting professionally as a teenager, she has taken on a variety of movies and TV shows, but she has definitely appeared in a lot of darker fare, like Marvel’s The Punisher or 2025’s summer camp horror Marshmallow.

Because of those darker projects, Whigham might have some weighty roles, but she often brings a lightness and warmth to her characters that makes them feel like they could step right off the screen. Her ability to make her characters seem approachable, even when she’s playing an antagonist, is a gift. Her best movies and TV shows offer a variety of genres and tones, but she stands out in all of them.

A Little White Lie is a movie that was plagued with problems during its development. Initially planned for a 2017 shoot, it was delayed and recast in 2020. COVID-19 restrictions saw the set shut down before it could finish filming, and it was completed a year later for, ultimately, a 2023 theatrical release. After all the delays, the finished project is an indie comedy that is full of whimsy and warmth.

A Little White Lie is based on the novel Shriver by Chris Belden.

A famous writer gets an invitation to a literary festival, only the invitation gets sent to someone else with the same name, a handyman in need of a little luck. He accepts the invite and finds himself having a good time with the college students and professors, even dating one of the teachers, before someone else shows up claiming to be the writer as well. In the end, just who the famous writer really is ends up in question.

Whigham does not have a huge role in the movie since she is one of the students, but the movie makes for a fun take on imposter syndrome among artists, and with fewer movies than television projects under Whigham’s resume, this one deserves a spot among her best.

Saving Zoë did not get the fondest critical reception as many preferred the book of the same name that inspired the movie instead. Critics largely felt that it was hard to bring to life so many of the internal processes that were described in the book, and as a result, the movie was not quite as affecting for them. Despite that, the performances in the movie, including Whigham’s, are fantastic.

The movie follows a teenager who struggles to deal with the murder of her older sister. Even though her sister’s killer has been apprehended, she believes there is more to the story and sets out to investigate for herself with her older sister’s diary as her guide.

Whigham plays another teenager in the movie, one who proves instrumental in uncovering more about what happened to the other girl. Her character is not an innocent bystander when it comes to the crime though, and Whigham plays Carly as apprehensive and even desperate at times, and when the movie comes to an end, it’s clear why she is such a rattled young woman.

13 Reasons Why gets a lot of criticism for its graphic scenes, but it also features some impressive acting from a young and largely inexperienced cast. Giorgia Whigham only appears in two episodes of the show, and her two episodes are in the first season, which is adapted from Jay Asher’s novel.

The jumping off point of the series is the fallout from the death of a teenage girl. The initial story is framed around her reasons for choosing her fate. Whigham’s Kat is her “only friend” before her world spirals out of control.

Kat is seen in flashback throwing a massive party when she is about to move thousands of miles away from her hometown. Whigham plays her as fun-loving, but also kind and perceptive. Kat tries to steer Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) away from the very teenage boys who prove to be dangerous, and she tries to encourage Clay (Dylan Minnette) to make his feelings for Hannah known.

Following that flashback, Whigham’s Kat is cold when she testifies about Hannah’s death, blaming many of the people she left behind for the loss of her friend. Whigham does an excellent job at playing the teenager before and after the massive loss in her life.

…it’s nice work by her as she makes the audience trust her, then pulls the rug out from under them.

Chance sees Hugh Laurie back on television as a doctor, though a very different one from House, who made him famous to American audiences. Here, he plays the titular Chance, a neuropsychiatrist who treats patients while being pulled into the world of vigilante violence and trying to help his teenage daughter with her own mental health.

Whigham only appears in a handful of episodes as a classmate of said daughter. While initially she appears as a supporting character who may be there just to play a stereotypical new friend, that is not the case. Instead, Whigham gets to play a closet mean girl who spreads gossip about the new girl when she finds out about her mental health issues and past stalking incidents. That leads to a violent confrontation between the two.

Though Whigham does not get to appear in more than three episodes, her role here is more subtle of a mean girl than TV often allows actors to be, and it’s nice work by her as she makes the audience trust her, then pulls the rug out from under them.

Like so many of her television roles, Whigham only appears in a handful of episodes of The Orville, but her character is actually brought back years after her initial appearance and is able to show her growth despite such a short time on the show.

Whigham’s Lysella is from a planet where people are punished or rewarded based on a majority voting system. Lysella initially uses the voting system regularly for trivial matters before The Orville main characters help her see what happens to those who are downvoted by the majority. Eventually, she seeks asylum with the help of the crew years later.

Whigham’s Lysella provides interesting commentary on both social media and reality television as the audience knows it today, but more than that, she is also proof that people can change. Though Lysella changes her attitude and desires a better life for herself, she doesn’t change her outgoing nature. Whigham plays her with a curiosity and warmth that likely makes many fans wish she had joined the comedy full time.

Legacies is a spin-off series of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, centering on the Salvatore School, which takes in students of supernatural origin. There, the students are witches, vampires, werewolves, fairies, and more. They deal with teen angst alongside supernatural occurrences and the exploration of different realities.

Whigham only appears in a few episodes of the series in seasons 2 and 3 as a vampire. There, she takes a romantic interest in one of the witches at the school, but she also does not linger long after having spent a decade in a prison world. Whigham is able to combine the heightened emotions of a teenage girl with the trauma and weight her character has experienced as a “ripper” vampire seemingly effortlessly and is one of the supporting characters Legacies should have explored more.

When MTV produced a television series inspired by the Scream horror movies, it retained the same title and the idea of teens being stalked by a man in a mask in a small town, but that is largely where the similarities ended. The television series aired during a time when more Scream movies were not being produced, so it was thought to be the successor to the franchise. While the first two seasons and a Halloween special followed one group of characters, the third season featured a whole new group in a whole new setting.

Giorgia Whigham joins the cast in that third season. She plays the mostly stereotypical “goth girl” of a teen group, wearing dark clothing and makeup and channeling her inner rage perfectly. She is even the primary suspect among the main group of teenagers for much of her season, and Whigham does a great job at playing just on the side of unhinged to keep the audience wondering if she is the person behind the mask or not.

Though Giorgia Whigham has appeared in a lot of horror projects since she started acting in 2016, not all of them have been as well received as 2025’s Marshmallow. The movie has been described by Whigham herself as “if Black Mirror took place at a summer camp,” which is certainly an intriguing premise (via Collider).

The movie follows a young boy who is sent off to summer camp by his well-meaning parents. He has been plagued with nightmares and his parents hope a change of scenery will do him good. When head counselor Rachel tells the campers a scary story, it kicks off a whole new bout of nightmares, and he becomes convinced that the man in her story is real.

Whigham’s Rachel is a girl who operates by the book at summer camp, but she has a few moments of really letting loose. Both aspects allow Whigham to play a character that is very different from those she has played in the past.

Whigham is known for playing emotional characters in the middle of chaos and, at least in the first half of the movie, Rachel is more tightly wound than anyone else she has played, making her a great addition to Whigham’s work.

…she is always ready for a heartfelt moment…

Ted is an original series for Peacock, but it has its roots in the movies. It serves as a prequel to the Ted movies about a plush bear that is a sentient being. The series takes place early in the life of the titular bear in the Bennett family household as he attends school with his human best friend.

Whigham’s Blaire is not one fans of the movies will remember. Blaire is a character created specifically for the show, a cousin to the main character who moves in while attending college because her family is even more dysfunctional than theirs. With all of the wacky hijinks that happen on the show, Blaire has become the heart of the Bennett family.

Blaire is the character most often looking out for her cousin and his bear. She is also the one more likely to challenge the status quo. Even though the series is clearly a comedy, she is always ready for a heartfelt moment, and Whigham brings an earnestness to her that makes her feel genuine, no matter what is happening in the show’s main plot.

Thanks to the sweeping nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Punisher is one of Whigham’s highest-profile projects of her career so far. It’s also her best.

The series sees Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) navigating the streets of New York and using no mercy against the gangs he sees as responsible for the crime that led to the deaths of his wife and children. He makes his life a one-man crusade to avenge them, but also to take his grief and his anger and use it to violently clean up the streets.

Whigham appears as a young girl he takes under his wing. He protects her without knowing her whole story, trying to keep her safe in a way he could not keep the people he cared about safe. Whigham is naive and world-weary in turn. She is not entirely approaching the world with her eyes open to all of the bad, but she has also experienced heavy trauma herself. Whigham does a great job at balancing that and bringing a little levity into Frank’s world.
