Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 is a free online game that can be played by multiple people. It is set in a fictional world called Tyria. The main story follows a group of heroes trying to stop dragon creatures from taking over Tyria. The story ends in the new part of the game, “End of Dragons”, launching in 2023.

What makes Guild Wars 2 unique is that the story changes based on the player’s actions. This is not common in games where many people play together. Instead of traditional missions, the game uses a dynamic event system. This means players can solve problems in different ways. Combat also differs from the first game, focusing on teamwork and utilizing the environment.

Like the first Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2 doesn’t require you to pay a monthly fee to play. But before August 2015, you’ll need to buy the game. Sales exceeded 2 million copies in the first two weeks. Many people play the game at the same time, with the number of players reaching 460,000 in August 2013. By August 2015, more than 5 million copies had been sold, and the game subsequently became free-to-play.

Four significant additional parts have been added to the game: “Heart of Thorns” (2015), “Path of Fire” (2017), “Dragon’s End” (2022) and “Secrets of the Obscurity” (2023). Each section adds new locations to explore, tougher combat, and special abilities. The first three also add new jobs, as well as “lifeworld” stories that emerge over time and connect the main parts.

Guild Wars 2 gameplay

In Guild Wars 2, you create your character by choosing from five races and nine classes. These races are humans, charr, asura, norn, and sylvari. These professions are like job classes and they wear different types of armor. There are “scholars” with light armor, “adventurers” with medium armor, and “soldiers” with heavy armor. There is no special healing class because the game wants players to be more flexible and a healer is not always needed in the team.

The race and class you choose will affect the skills your character can use. In Guild Wars 2, combat is skill-based, and although there are many skills to choose from, you can only have 10 at a time. This makes choosing the right one for your character a bit like a puzzle. Your weapon and class determine the first five skills. The sixth skill is for healing, and the seventh to ninth skills are for other skills you unlock as you play the game. The tenth skill is called the “Elite” skill and is also unlocked later. Unlike the first Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2 focuses more on having fewer skills that work well, rather than having a confusing number of skills.

The first Guild Wars had a level cap of 20, but in Guild Wars 2, the level cap is 80. This means your character can grow a lot, but it’s not a boring thing. The game tries to find a balance between character growth and not making the player do the same thing over and over again. Throughout the game, you’ll encounter different monsters, and the game will adjust their strength based on your level, so it’s always a good challenge.

In PvP, all players are at the same level, level 80, and can use almost any skill or item. This is fair to everyone. There’s also a massive battle mode called World vs. World, where players fight on a huge map, build stuff, and get rewards for winning.

Guild Wars 2 has crafting, and you can learn two crafting skills at once. You can experiment with different ingredients to discover new ways to make them. Since Guild Wars 2 is set 250 years after the first game, you can’t bring your old characters into the new game, but some achievements and honors from the first game can bring you rewards in Guild Wars 2. To receive these rewards, you will need to link accounts from both games.

Guild Wars 2 plot

Guild Wars 2 takes place in the fantasy realm of Tyria, 250 years after players defeated the Great Destroyer in the Eye of the North expansion. Since the initial pitched battle, the awakening of five sleeping “Elder Dragons” has brought chaos and corruption to Tyria. Human rule has declined due to natural disasters and conflict with the Charr, who have reclaimed their ancestral homeland of Ascalon.

The Norn are a proud Nordic hunting race who were displaced by the rise of the ice dragon Jolma to the north. In the west, when Primodus, the first awakened dragon, occupied the Tyrian Abyss, the technologically advanced asura were forced to build an aboveground home. Near Asura, the mysterious sylvari, a newly emerged race seemingly untroubled by the world’s problems but with a mysterious connection to the Elder Dragons.

To the south, Cantha is isolated by xenophobia and the Zhaitan undead navy. Ilona remains cut off from the outside world, with signs of an ongoing struggle against the lich Pallava Jocko’s Corrupting Crescent and the Crystal Dragon Krakatoll, led by Secret Reports of the Whispering Order. The Battle Islands disappeared due to Orr’s reappearance, along with Zhaitan’s awakening and a devastating tsunami.
