Top five biggest scores in Indian Super League history
1. Sunrisers Hyderabad (287/3)
On 15 April 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved a remarkable feat by breaking their own record for the highest total in the IPL, scoring a staggering 287 runs for three innings against Royal Challengers Bangalore. This staggering total is not only a testament to their batting prowess, but is also the second-highest score in the history of global T20 cricket. Only Nepal surpassed this monumental achievement of SRH in 2023 with a staggering score of 314/3 against Mongolia.
2. Sunrisers Hyderabad (277/3)
On March 27, 2024, SRH batsmen scored 277 runs for the loss of only 3 wickets, breaking one of the longest-standing records held by RCB. SRH batsmen Heinrich Klaasen, Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Aiden Markram broke RCB’s long-standing record of the highest total in the league’s history and rewrote IPL history. RCB held the record for more than a decade until Klaasen’s explosive performance in the last innings set the record for SRH. Klaasen, Abhishek and Travis all scored 50 runs and had a strike rate of over 200.
3. Kolkata Knight Riders (272/7)
Kolkata Knight Riders were unstoppable and almost equaled the record of Sunrisers Hyderabad as they beat Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam with a staggering score of 7 for 272. Among other notable performances, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Supergiants were the only other two teams to reach the 250-plus milestone in the IPL.
4. Sunrisers Hyderabad (266/7)
SRH’s batsmen launched a relentless onslaught, with Travis Head once again at the top of the order, leading the team’s fierce attack. In the stipulated 20 innings, they scored a total of 266 runs. The team reached the half-century milestone in the third innings, with Head scoring 50 runs in just 16 balls. They then reached the hundred milestone in just 5 overs, with their score at 125-0 at the end of the powerplay. Although Delhi Capitals initially made a brief resurgence, reducing Sunrisers from 131-0 to 151-4, Shahbaz took control. Led by his young and inexperienced partner Nitish Kumar, Shahbaz orchestrated a stunning outing. His 59 runs off 29 balls helped the team to an impressive total, establishing their dominance.
5. Royal Challengers Bangalore (263/5)
On 23rd April 2013, the much-loved Indian Premier League team Royal Challengers Bangalore scored a staggering 263 runs for the loss of just 5 wickets. RCL star player Chris Gayle alone contributed 175 runs and was not out. This is considered a respectable team score in the Indian Premier League. A few more overs and Gayle would have hit a double century in T20 cricket. Other RCL players like Tilakarat Dilshan, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers played supporting roles while Gayle’s name was etched in the history books forever. Pune Warriors were restricted to 133/9.
5. Lucknow Supergiants (257/5)
Lucknow Supergiant almost surpassed RCB’s almost unbeatable record by scoring 257 runs in 20 innings, losing only 5 wickets. LSG batted first against Punjab Kings and every player of the team entered the field and started to bat. Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran were MVPs, scoring 72 runs in 40 innings and 45 runs in 19 innings respectively. PBKS also batted well and would have won on any other day, but even after scoring 201 runs, they were 56 runs behind.
