Highest Wicket Takers in T20 World Cup History till 2024

The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the United States from June 1 to 29, 2024. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is known for its fast-paced and exciting format and represents the pinnacle of cricket.

No player has taken more wickets in the history of the T20 World Cup than Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan. In 36 matches, Shakib has taken 47 wickets at an impressive average of 18.63 and an economy rate of 6.78. His achievements include taking four wickets on three occasions, with his best being four wickets against Papua New Guinea in the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Pakistan’s Umar Gul was the top batsman in the first two T20 World Cups in 2007 and 2009. Bowlers from Pakistan and Sri Lanka dominate the top 10 list of most batsmen in T20 World Cup. Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) – 47 wickets

Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is the highest wicket-taker in the history of the T20 World Cup. Shahid Afridi (Pakistan) – 39 wickets

Pakistan’s Shahid “Boom Boom” Afridi is the second-most wickets in T20 World Cup history. Afridi has taken 39 wickets in 34 T20 World Cup matches. Known for his unique leg-spin and energetic demeanor on the field, he was an indispensable player for Pakistan throughout the tournament. He last played in a T20 World Cup in 2016.

Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka) – 38 wickets

Sri Lanka’s Lasith “The Bowler” Malinga is a true icon in T20 cricket. Known for his unique bowling action, tricky slower balls and deadly yorkers, Malinga has taken 38 wickets in 31 T20 World Cup matches. His late-innings performances were crucial to Sri Lanka’s victory in the 2014 T20 World Cup.

Syed Ajmal (Pakistan) – 36 wickets

Pakistani off-spinner Syed Ajmal is widely praised for his excellent bowling and excellent control. He played 23 T20 World Cup matches and took 36 wickets before retiring in 2014. His ability to deceive batsmen with his varied bowling techniques made him a prolific wicket-taker for the Men in Green.

Ajantha Mendis (Sri Lanka) – 35 wickets

Sri Lanka’s mysterious spin bowler Ajanta Mendis is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in all T20 World Cups. Mendis, known for his unconventional bowling style and varied delivery, has taken 35 wickets in just 21 T20 World Cup matches. He has played in just three T20 World Cups and was part of the 2014 winning team.
