The characters in The Chronicles of Narnia got their start in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but what happens at the end of their stories? The beloved book series by author C.S. Lewis has an answer. While Disney adapted three of the Narnia books to the screen, the remaining four within the series have been left untold. Hopefully, future adaptations will change this, and the Pevensies and other primary Narnia characters can finally have their full story told.

Barbie director Greta Gerwig has a new Chronicles of Narnia movie series on the way, and it’s hoped that this will ultimately lead to the full story being brought to the screen. Lewis’ final Narnia book, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Last Battle, details the end of Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy’s adventures, as well as those of Aslan, the Professor, and Eustace Scrubb. It’s a far more tragic tale than fans of Disney’s Narnia movies might be expecting. Regardless, if these events are ever adapted by Gerwig or other movie-makers, it will most certainly be a spectacle.

1
Peter Pevensie
High King Peter The Magnificent
Peter Pevensie, the oldest of the Pevensie children, had two adventures in Narnia before The Last Battle. As Aslan said in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, “Once a king of Narnia, always a king of Narnia,” so Peter was respected as a ruler for thousands of in-world years. However, after helping Prince Caspian X be crowned king, Peter could no longer return to Narnia. In Prince Caspian, Aslan told Peter that he and Susan had grown up, so they could not access the fantasy land again. Still, this didn’t technically mark the end of Peter’s involvement with Narnia.
In The Last Battle, while Peter was 22 years old, he was contacted by King Tirian, a descendant of King Caspian X. Narnia was in trouble, and the present king requested the help of the Friends of Narnia. Peter, Edmund, and Lucy decided to find the Professor’s Magic Rings, which could be used to travel to Narnia. However, the train they boarded had a terrible accident. Peter was killed, and the next thing he knew, he was in the “Real Narnia” with Aslan. The Lion destroyed and sealed away the previous Narnia, which was tainted by evil, and welcomed all those who successfully crossed over to live in paradise forever.
2
Susan Pevensie
Queen Susan The Gentle
Like Peter, Susan had two adventures in Narnia, beginning with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and ending with Prince Caspian. After this, Susan became entirely fixated on growing up. When her family spoke about her later in the Narnia books, they said that Susan was interested in nothing but “nylons and lipstick and invitations.” It’s noted that she was keen to enter her 20s, and once she had, she would be eager to stay that age as long as she could—Susan didn’t want to be a child, but she didn’t want to grow old either. In all of this, Susan had stopped believing in Narnia altogether.
C.S. Lewis considered writing a Susan spinoff series, but it never came to be.
Unfortunately, Susan Pevensie’s concerns at the end of the Narnia books went far beyond the fear of aging and a lack of belief in her old fantasy home. She wasn’t with her siblings when they set out to answer King Tirion’s plea for help and was not on the train that ultimately crashed. So, Susan was the only Pevensie to survive in The Last Battle. By sheer coincidence, Susan’s parents were on the train with Peter, Edmund, and Lucy, as well as several cousins. All in one accident, Susan lost her entire family. It’s never revealed in the Narnia books what became of her after this tragedy.
3
Edmund Pevensie
King Edmund The Just
As the third Pevensie sibling, Edmund had three total adventures in Narnia in the Chronicles of Narnia series. He first traveled to the fantasy land in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which is when the White Witch first tricked him into betraying his siblings. From then on, Edmund remained a good and faithful character and continued on to save Narnia in Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The latter was his final time traveling to Narnia since Aslan told him during this adventure that he had grown up and could, therefore, never return.

Edmund was 19 when he gathered with Peter, Lucy, and the other Friends of Narnia and was contacted by King Tirion. He participated in their plan to retrieve Professor Kirke’s Magic Rings and save the fantasy land in The Last Battle and was, therefore, on the train when it tipped over. Edmund and the rest of his family (except Susan) died in the crash, but he was resurrected and brought to the Real Narnia by Aslan. Edmund witnessed the destruction of the previous Narnia and was reunited with old friends (such as Mr. and Mrs. Beaver) who had died long ago. Together, they all lived in paradise forever.
4
Lucy Pevensie
Queen Lucy The Valiant
Lucy Pevensie, the youngest of her siblings, also had three adventures in The Chronicles of Narnia. Lucy was the purest of heart and most childlike of her siblings, content with believing in the things of her imagination and entirely uneager to grow up. She developed a close relationship with Aslan in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which continued through all subsequent Narnia novels. Her final adventure in Narnia came with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader when Aslan told her she was officially too old to return.

Lucy was reunited with her old friends from Narnia, who had died long ago. This included Mr. Tumnus, Lucy’s first and dearest friend in the fantasy land.
Lucy was 17 when she and the rest of her family were killed in the train accident in The Last Battle. However, she did not remember the crash; all she knew was that she had suddenly appeared in a meadow with her family. Aslan led them to the new, better Cair Paravel, and Lucy was reunited with her old friends from Narnia, who had died long ago. This included Mr. Tumnus, Lucy’s first and dearest friend in the fantasy land. Despite this happy reunion, Lucy was not as happy as her siblings since she feared being sent back to England. This is when Aslan revealed that, this time, she would never return.
5
Aslan
The King Above All High Kings
Aslan is the only character in The Chronicles of Narnia to appear in each of the books. The Lion is deeply complex, and though he is considered the supreme ruler of Narnia, he comes and goes from the country, typically arriving to guide human rulers in times of trouble. Aslan comes from a place referred to as Aslan’s Country, and it is here that he is believed to return during his long stints away from Narnia. In The Magician’s Nephew, it’s revealed that Aslan is the creator of Narnia. However, this land is only an imperfect shadow of the Lion’s own country—the “Real Narnia.”
By the events of The Last Battle, Aslan had been absent from Narnia for many years, and the beings there had begun to lose faith in his existence. An imposter appeared, claiming to be Aslan, and many began to follow him and suffer greatly as a result. It’s for this reason that King Tirion reached out to the Pevensies. However, Narnia had become too corrupted for anyone to save. The time had come for this world to end, and the beings were given a chance to enter Aslan’s country. Those that did saw Aslan transform, no longer appearing as a Lion. The ending of the Narnia franchise sees Aslan and his people live together in paradise forever.
6
Prince Caspian
King Caspian X
Prince Caspian X became king of Narnia, with the Pevensies’ help, about 1,000 years after the events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. He was initially from a different country, but he had heard tales of Old Narnia from his nurse and became fascinated. After his father was usurped and murdered, Caspian went on an adventure to restore Old Narnia. He called on the kings and queens of old with Susan’s horn and was joined by Peter, Edmund, Susan, and Lucy, who ultimately became his dear friends. King Caspian X’s line contued to rule Narnia until The Last Battle.
The king lived only long enough to embrace his son before passing away at 66.
Following Caspian’s adventures in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, during which Caspian was joined by Lucy, Edmund, and their cousin Eustace Scrubb, the Narnian king married and had a son, Prince Rilian. Caspian’s wife, Lilliandil, was killed by a great serpent, and his son disappeared. This led an aged Caspian to attempt a voyage to the End of the World to ask Aslan who should be king of Narnia after him. However, Caspian received a vision telling him to return home, where Rilian was alive and waiting for him. The king lived only long enough to embrace his son before passing away at 66.
7
Eustace Scrubb
The Pevensies’ Cousin
Eustace Scrubb is a cousin to the Pevensies—one they didn’t particularly like at first. However, their relationship with the boy improved significantly in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, during which Eustace accompanied Edmund and Lucy on an adventure in Narnia. This was the Penvensies’ last trip to the magical land since they outgrew Narnia after this adventure. However, since he was younger, Eustace was able to go to Narnia two additional times, once during The Silver Chair and the next in The Last Battle.

Eustance and his friend Jill were the only two young enough to travel to Narnia when King Tirian sent his message in The Last Battle. They traveled there when they were “jerked” from their world for, at the time, an unknown reason. It’s ultimately revealed that the jerk that sent him to Narnia was the railway accident. Like his cousins, Eustance was killed in the crash and, therefore, went to live in the Real Narnia for all eternity.

Professor Digory Kirke
The First Friend Of Narnia
Professor Digory Kirke, known to the Pevensies as “The Professor,” is the owner of the magical wardrobe in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Just as he told the children, he had once traveled to Narnia, and the full story of how this came to be is spelled out in The Magician’s Nephew. It’s revealed that, as a boy, Kirke played a significant role in the creation of Narnia, a shadow of Aslan’s country, the Real Narnia. It is also because of Kirke that Jadis, the White Witch, came to curse this land to an eternal winter.

Through Professor Kirke’s childhood adventures in Narnia, he came to have a magical apple, which he used to save his sick mother in the real world. He planted the core of this apple in his garden, and the resulting tree was used to build the magical wardrobe. Decades later, in The Last Battle, Kirke attempted to help the Pevensies save King Tirian and Narnia but was killed in the railway accident. Kirke appeared with the others in the New Narnia, a young boy again, and lived for eternity in paradise.
