The game offers an open-world experience where players can explore Metropolis alone or with friends. The game was originally scheduled for release in 2022, but was delayed to February 2, 2024, with early access to the Deluxe Edition available on January 29, 2024. Notably, the game includes Kevin Conroy’s final performance as Batman to honor his memory after his death on November 10, 2022.

At the PlayStation State of Play on February 23, 2023, Rocksteady shared more details. They said you’ll need an internet connection to play the game. They also mentioned a battle pass that will give your character new looks, and talked about adding new characters and missions after the game launches.
On December 8, 2023, Rocksteady said they would add an offline mode later. But on April 13, 2023, they delayed the game again, to February 2, 2024. The Epic Games Store version was delayed even more, to March 5, 2024. Players who purchased the Deluxe Edition could play early starting on January 29, 2024, but there were issues with the server fixing bugs.
