How to Beat Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth? Tips and Tricks to Beat Sephiroth

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Developed and published by Square Enix, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Remake. As the second in a planned trilogy of remakes of the iconic 1997 PlayStation game, Rebirth continues the saga.

The game retains the perfect combination of real-time action, strategic elements and role-playing features. Based on the remastered version, players will guide the highly skilled mercenary Claude Strife and the AVALANCHE eco-terrorist organization to explore the planet. Their mission is to stop Shinra’s plan to use the Lifestream, the essence of life, and to prevent the powerful Sephiroth from gaining greater power by uniting with the planet.

Rebirth started production in November 2019, ahead of Final Fantasy VII Remake, and the game was officially released in June 2022. With the creative shift, Tetsuya Nomura served as creative director, while Naoki Hamaguchi served as director. The game brought back key staff members from the previous game, maintaining the spirit of collaboration that made Final Fantasy VII Remake a success.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was released exclusively for PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024 to critical acclaim. The game previously served as a foundation, enticing players with immersive gameplay, compelling narrative, and stunning visuals, ensuring the continuation of the beloved Final Fantasy saga.

How to defeat Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?

In the first confrontation with Sephiroth, players will experience a unique twist as Cloud and Zack team up to take on a powerful foe. Controlling Zack brings a new dynamic to the battle, providing different special abilities. By pressing Triangle, players can charge Zack’s meter from level 1 to level 3, unlocking new abilities with each level.

The challenge is to strategically charge up before becoming the target of Sephiroth’s rapid-fire attacks and slashes. Players must master their timing to maximize Zack’s potential in the battle against the iconic villain. Sephiroth’s arsenal includes famous attacks that require caution, such as his version of a jump where he disappears into the air and attacks from above.

Another move, Pierce, involves a quick teleport and a powerful sword thrust, prompting players to quickly switch characters when caught off guard. When Sephiroth launches his most powerful move, Eight Blades Flash, players should seize the opportunity to launch a flurry of attacks to effectively put pressure on him.

Strategic role-switching between Cloud and Zack is crucial, with Cloud drawing aggro and Zack unleashing powerful attacks at different gauge levels with his Buster Sword. Coordinating these tactics and utilizing the synergistic ability Soldier’s Honor when Sephiroth is on the edge can lead to a swift victory.

Despite their initial collaboration, Cloud and Zack’s reunion is short-lived, setting the stage for the next phase. As the battle progresses, Cloud must face Sephiroth alone, now in his powerful new form – Sephiroth Reborn. The battle intensifies, with players evolving in this epic final battle, facing more challenges and higher stakes.

How to prepare for Sephiroth

For the upcoming fight with Jenova, following our Jenova Life Attacher guide, you should be at the recommended level and have made it past the Point of No Return in Chapter 13. Prioritize getting supplies and unlocking the necessary upgrades. Before the final boss sequence, you’ll have one last chance to adjust your party gear and Materia in the menu screen. Note that you won’t be able to purchase or unlock anything else at this point.

Before fighting Jenova, make sure Aerith is equipped with valuable magic stones, focusing on healing or defensive spells. Take advantage of her magic skills, especially Magic Storm and Prayer, which are available from the start of the game. Since the team will be split in the upcoming battle, use this opportunity to adjust the equipment. If you are short of multiple elemental magic magic stones, distribute them wisely among the team members, especially considering Barret, Yuffie, and Red XIII.

In terms of healing, Aerith’s magical prowess makes basic healing spells very effective, allowing you to allocate the highest-level healing Materia to other teammates. Consider equipping a Barrier Materia to either Cloud or Aerith, as they will likely take the most powerful hits in the upcoming battle. Preparation and strategic Materia placement will play a key role in dealing with the challenges posed by Jenova and Sephiroth.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gameplay

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second in a trilogy of remakes of the 1997 classic PlayStation game Final Fantasy VII. The game continues the story of Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) and tells the story of Cloud Strife, a former Shinra soldier turned eco-warrior of AVALANCHE.

They team up to fight Shinra, a mega-corporation draining Earth’s life energy, and face off against the legendary soldier Sephiroth, who was thought dead but has mysteriously returned. Rebirth builds on the original game, reimagining elements and expanding on character development and the overall narrative.

Rebirth’s gameplay combines real-time exploration and combat in a more open world, a departure from the linear structure of Midgar in Remake. The heads-up display provides objective markers for both main story missions and side quests, indicating how close they are to the party.

In addition to walking, players can also use Chocobo Lure Materials to make Chocobo move faster. The game improves on the action-centric melee and active battle (ATB) system introduced in the remake. Players control a group of characters and switch freely during the game.

Characters can use both physical attacks and magic, and can use items to attack, defend, and revive while the game is paused. The “synergy” mechanic, which first appeared in the DLC “Episode INTERmission” of “Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade” (2021), returns again, allowing synchronized attacks, but at the cost of a slower ATB bar filling speed.
