Palworld players can unlock coal mines by reaching level 53 and spending 5 Ancient Technology Points in the Technology Menu. Ancient Technology Points can be earned by defeating major and minor boss Pals.
The Sakurajima Update raised the game’s level cap from 50 to 55, so players who were previously at the highest level will need to reach level 53 to have their own coal mining space within the main base. Once unlocked, players can find the coal mine under the Production tab of the Build menu.

The player needs 100 Coal, 70 Stone, and 30 Palladium Fragments to build a Coal Mine at their base. The amount of coal required for a Coal Mine may seem like a lot, just to save the player the time of building another base dedicated to mining Coal. Especially when the player has already created these automated Coal Mining Fields in the late game, as these resources are necessary for crafting advanced materials, armor, and weapons.
However, getting more coal from any source is always welcome, and having a private location where your companions can carry to your stash is better than having to travel quickly to your other bases just to get coal. Since coal is in high demand, it is best to assign a Digtoise or Dumud to a coal mine to speed up mining. Digtoise would be more popular, as Dumid also has the Watering and Transport skills, and may be able to distract from mining to focus on those tasks.
