You need a monster with the ivy climbing ability to climb ivy vines in Monster Hunter Stories 2.

You can find ivy in nearly every area of Monster Hunter Stories 2, starting with your first expedition. Unfortunately, you won’t encounter monsters with this ability until you reach Sekimura, the third area you’ll visit in your Monster Hunter Stories 2 adventure.

About ten hours into the game, when you reach Guancun, you can start looking for monsters that can climb mountains. There are several monsters that can climb ivy, most of which are located in the frost areas around Guancun. Here are the monsters you need to keep an eye out for:
- Kangalala – Loloska
- Kechavacha – Loloska
- Nershila – Loloska
- Tigrex – Lamuel
It’s worth noting that you’ll need to do more than just defeat these monsters in combat in order to climb Ivy Climb. You’ll need to steal one of their eggs from its nest and then hatch it in the stable. Then, place the monster in your party and begin your expedition.

Once you come across ivy, jump onto your monster and press the ability button to use the monster’s abilities and climb up the vine wall.
Since nearly every gathering area has ivy walls, it’s a good idea to return to some of the starting areas and explore them again. Eventually being able to climb up the ivy walls can allow you to obtain all sorts of valuable loot. So while you might prefer to continue with the story, backtracking to check out all the locations you missed will net you some great rewards.
