How to Fix a Reverse in Persona 3 Reload?

The reversal in Persona 3 Reloaded

In Persona 3 Reloaded, the reversal mechanic is a unique feature not found in other Persona games. This happens when the player makes a very bad choice in a social link or close friend scene. While in other games these choices might simply mean spending more time with your friends, in Persona 3 Reloaded, they can completely ruin your relationship with a character.

This means that your bond with the character will completely break down, instead of growing closer. This feature will surprise even experienced players, as they might not expect it if they’re used to other Persona games. Essentially, a reversal is the result of making very bad decisions during social interactions in the game, causing your relationship with the character to deteriorate.

The reason for the reversal in Persona 3 Reloaded

In Persona 3 Reloaded, reversals occur when players make offensive choices during social interactions, especially when they are on a romantic path with a character. This mechanic is inspired by the “relationship bomb” mechanic in Japanese dating games, where making the wrong choice can severely damage the player’s relationship with a character.

To trigger a reversal, the player must say or do something extremely offensive to the character they are interacting with. The game will usually give a warning before making such a choice, reminding the player of the possible consequences.

For example, in certain scenes, like the Level 5 interaction with Chihiro in Secret of Justice, choosing options like trying to kiss her can result in a reversal if she reacts negatively.

This causes Chihiro’s Akana to flip and turn red, indicating that the player’s relationship with her has seriously deteriorated.

How to fix the reversal issue in Persona 3 Reload?

Solving the reverse problem

In Persona 3 Reloaded, when a character is reversed, they will still appear in their usual position, but their available cards will be red and upside down. Fortunately, there is a way for players to correct this situation.

Conversation with the reversed character

Players can talk to the inverted character to apologize or ask for forgiveness. This interaction needs to happen three times within three days to flip their availability card back up.

After that, the player must wait until the fourth day to continue to spend time with them. It is worth noting that talking to the reverse character does not consume any game time.

Utilizing the rewind function

Additionally, players can take advantage of the handy rewind feature in the Persona 3 Reload system menu. This feature allows players to rewind time to a previous free moment, effectively undoing the events that led to the reversal.

By replaying the Social Link scenario and avoiding the decisions that led to the reversal, players can prevent it from happening entirely. While some players may not be willing to take this easier route, it is a viable option for those who wish to do so.
