Fix first descendant settings reset issue
If your graphics, controls, or any other settings keep resetting when launching The First Descendant, you will need to uncheck the read-only attribute of the GameUserSettings.ini file.

To do this, follow the steps below.
- First, press the Windows and R keys simultaneously to open the Windows Run
- Enter the following address and press OK
%LOCALAPPDATA%/M1/Saved/Configuration/Windows/
- Here, right-click on the GameUserSettings.ini file and select Properties
- Next to Attributes, make sure Read-only is not checked.
- Press the “OK” button and the file will be overwritten the next time you change the settings.
That’s all you need to do to make sure your settings are saved after closing the game. If your settings still aren’t saving, we recommend trying the following.
Verify game files
- Open Steam, and navigate to your library
- Here, right-click on “First Descendant” and select “Properties”
- In the Installed Files tab, click Verify Integrity of Game Files
Run The First Descendant as an administrator
Sometimes Windows restricts certain applications from making changes to the primary operating system drive. To ensure this doesn’t happen with The First Descendant, try running it with administrator privileges.
- Open Steam, and navigate to your library
- Here, right-click on “The First Descendant” and click on “Manage and browse local files”
- This will take you to the location where the game is installed.
- Right-click on the The First Descendant executable and select Properties
- In the Compatibility tab, check “Run this program as an administrator”
We hope that the developers address this in a future patch, as setting up the game every time you launch it can be quite annoying.
