How to increase boat speed in Skull & Bones?

Ships are a big deal in Skull & Bones, so it only makes sense that you’d want yours to be fast so you can go on all those cool adventures, right? Here are some easy ways to speed up your ship:

1. Get speed-boosting furniture:

  • Install special furniture on your boat that increases your speed. Items like sterile galleys, rope lockers and balanced masts can really make a difference.

2. Sailing with the wind:

  • When you’re out at sea, keep an eye on your speedometer. If you see a green arrow pointing north, that means you’re sailing with the wind and you’ll go faster. But if the arrow is red and there are clouds around it, you’re sailing against the wind, which will slow you down.

3. Utilize Food:

  • Eating helps restore stamina so you can keep your ship traveling at top speed without having to wait for it to recharge. Just keep in mind that there will be a short cooldown between snacks.

4. Manage vessel capacity:

  • Don’t overload your boat. If you overload it with cargo, your boat will slow down and become difficult to maneuver. Keep an eye on your inventory and leave behind any heavy items you don’t need.

5. Discarding goods:

  • When sailing, you can throw away unwanted cargo to lighten the load and increase your speed. It’s a good idea to throw away items like rusty nails and broken sails to keep your ship sailing smoothly.

6. Use the Pirate Bonfire:

  • Keep an eye out for the Pirate Bonfire at the Outpost. When it’s lit, you and your crew will gain special buffs that help you regenerate your stamina faster. This means you can sail at top speed for longer.

Skull & Bones is a video game developed by Ubisoft Singapore and published by Ubisoft. Set in an era when pirates ruled the seas, the game presents players with a fantasy version of the late 17th century, the golden age of piracy. In the game, players will play as pirates, pilot ships, engage in battles and search for treasure.

Skull & Bones is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Amazon Luna, and Windows PC, allowing players to embark on an adventure alone or with friends. Developed using the Ubisoft Anvil engine, the game features realistic visuals and an immersive gameplay experience.

Although originally planned to be released on Google Stadia, the game’s availability on that platform was affected by the shutdown of Google Stadia. If you enjoy adventure games and the thrill of naval battles, Skull & Bones will provide a thrilling experience that’s worth keeping an eye on.

Skull and Bones Gameplay

Skull and bone development

Skull & Bones began its journey as Ubisoft Singapore’s first project in 2013, inspired by the naval battles in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Initially conceived as an expansion to Black Flag and later an MMO spin-off called Black Flag Infinite, it evolved into a standalone project due to technical limitations.

There were significant hurdles during development, including a change in setting from the Caribbean to Hyperborea, before finally being set in the Indian Ocean. The gameplay was revised several times, with the focus shifting from naval exploration to land-based survival elements influenced by games like Rust. Budgetary issues and management challenges plagued the project, which cost more than $120 million.

Skull & Bones was announced at E3 2017, and subsequently suffered a series of delays, with an initial release date of 2018. A “new vision” emerged in September 2020, which led to further extensions to the development timeline and attracted the involvement of other studios such as Ubisoft Berlin. Despite several delays, including a closed beta in August 2023, Skull & Bones finally made its way to the gaming world, with an official release date set for February 16, 2024, after a series of rescheduled release dates.
