How to Install Diablo 4 Public Test Realm

Before each new season of Diablo IV begins, they release a Public Test Realm (PTR) where players can test all the latest additions, changes, and mechanics for the upcoming season. The PTR usually goes live a month before the planned release date, so the developers have time to balance the game and fix bugs. The PTR is available to everyone. Here’s how to install it and try out the latest updates before they go live.

Where to download Diablo IV Public Test Realms

To download the Diablo 4 PTR, you must first install Blizzard’s Battle.net App. Open the app and log into your account. Select the Diablo 4 game from the “Games” tab. On the Diablo 4 page, as shown in the image above, you can click the drop-down box and select “Public Test Realm.”

Typically, this will say “Live” for Diablo 4. If the game is installed, the blue button below it will say “Play.” If the game is not installed, it will say “Install.”

The Public Test Realm is a completely separate game, regardless of whether you have the full version of Diablo IV installed. Therefore, even if you have the full version of Diablo IV installed, you must install the Public Test Realm.

After switching to the PTR, the “Install” button will appear. You will then have to install another full version of the game, which may require more than 90GB of free space.

What to expect in the public test arena?

The Public Test Realm will have all the new additions, changes, and mechanics for the upcoming seasons added to it. If they launch a new seasonal event, you can try it out. For example, you can try out the Infernal Compass for Season 5 and try to figure out how to climb higher waves.

You can also theorize some builds to prepare for the next season if they come out with new unique items, legendary aspects, resources, and tempers.

This is how content creators experiment with new builds and provide the community with nice builds for players to follow. However, changes usually happen the day a new season arrives, but in the broader picture, you already know what to expect. For example, if they introduce game-changing aspects and unique items for a certain Hydra Sorcerer build, they can nerf it on launch day if they find it too strong.

Once you enter the public test realm, you can instantly upgrade your character to level 100 simply by talking to an NPC. This entire realm is designed for players to test things, so it makes sense that they give you everything you need.

You can also gain access to resources from the previous season, including items you may have stored in chests and some items stored in the Eternal Realm.

Everything in the PTR will be cleared, so feel free to waste all your resources on it. If you want a starter build to experiment with on the PTR, you can try some proven builds that do all forms of content.
