How to Start Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

FromSoftware’s hit game Elden Ring is finally getting the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, which will allow players to return to the game two years later and re-orient themselves in The Lands Between. Here’s how to get started with the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Elden Ring players must defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, the Blood Lord bosses before they can begin the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The first is a major boss that must be defeated to reach the end of the game, while the other is an optional boss found late in the game. Players only need to defeat these two bosses, without having to complete the main quest, to access the DLC.

Starblight Rodan is located in Redmane Castle in Kaylid. There are two ways to trigger the boss fight after defeating Full Moon Queen Raynara. The first method is to reach the Altus Plateau area via the Dectus Great Lift, and the second method is to speak with Mentor Seruvis in the Three Sisters of Liunia sub-area in the Lake Region. Both methods will trigger the first boss fight required for the festival and the DLC.

To fight Blood Lord Mog, the player must travel to the Dynasty Tombs in Mogwen Palace. The player can be instantly transported there by completing the White Masked Vale quest using the Pureblood Knight Medal.

Another way is via the teleporter on the west side of the Sacred Snowfields. This area can be reached via the Roald Grand Elevator, but both parts of the Harrygotry Secret Medal are required to take the elevator there.

The right Harigretri Secret Medal can be obtained by talking to Albus disguised as a jar, near the village of Albinaurics Site of Grace. The left Harigretri Secret Medal can be found on top of the tower of Sole Castle in the Giant’s Peak area.

After defeating both bosses, players can return to the Mohg, Lord of Blood boss fight room in Mohgwyn’s Palace to access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. A large cocoon will now be placed in front of the Place of Grace in the High Sky Cocoon.

Interacting with the arm that emerges from the cocoon and selecting “Touch the Withered Arm” will teleport you to the new DLC area. Interacting with the nearby Place of Grace will allow players to quickly travel between the main game and DLC areas at any time.
