Hozier, whose real name is Andrew John Hozier-Byrne, was born on March 17, 1990 in Newcastle, County Wicklow, Ireland. His parents, Rene Hozier-Byrne and John Byrne, brought him into a diverse musical environment, including blues, jazz and soul. Despite Hozier’s early exposure to music, he was initially identified as a “class clown” and “disabled student” during his school days, calling music a “monotonous nightmare”.

At 15, he began writing songs, teaching himself guitar and singing in the school choir. Raised in a family that converted from Catholic to Quaker, Hozier attended Delgany National School and later St Gerard’s School before studying for a music degree at Trinity College Dublin.

His musical journey began when he joined the Trinity Orchestra as a backing singer for Billy Ocean in 2012. This early exposure laid the foundation for his later success in the music industry.
