Hulk is one of the most complex heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)
, with some incredible moments featuring the angry green giant throughout his various appearances. Long before the MCU began, the Hulk became a pop culture phenomon. Like other popular heroes, including Spider-Man, Superman and Batman, Hulk was recognizable for fans of comics, and general pop culture. In part, this was due to the character starring in a TV show from 1977 that ran for five seasons.

However, since then, the Hulk has evolved beyond being a man who is painted green, or an animated cartoon character. Today, the Hulk is recognizable in live-action films as a powerful giant who is capable of smashing entire armies and scaling the tallest skyscrapers in New York City.

Hulk Destroys Tanks In The Desert
You are watching: Hulk’s Best Scene From Each Of His Marvel Movie Appearances
Hulk (2003)
This modern era of the Hulk in live-action began in 2003 with Ang Lee’s Hulk, starring Eric Bana as Bruce Banner. The film featured a distinct version of the hulking green beast that has been occasionally criticized for the inconsistencies in his size and power levels. However, there is no denying that this version of the character was an incredibly formidable beast.

For the most part, Banner manages to keep a lid on his alter-ego, but when he does break out, the Hulk unleashes incredible levels of destruction. This is best seen in the scene where the Hulk escapes into the desert, only to be attacked by four army tanks. Hulk is able to dismantle, crush, throw, and bend the tanks in various ways, all while walking off blows from the powerful machines with barely any issues. It’s an incredible display of strength, and one that established the potential for the CGI Hulk.

Hulk Versus The Military Sound Blasters
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Once again, in 2008, Hulk got another film which took the story in a slightly different direction. This time, Bruce Banner, played by Edward Norton, had already fled from the military and his former life in order to try and control his other half. Unfortunately, when Banner’s heart rate got too high, or his life was in imminent danger, the other guy would come out, and he couldn’t be stopped. And that is exactly what happened when General Ross came to capture Banner.
Banner tried to run, largely to prevent the Hulk from emerging, but that didn’t last long. After he transforms, The Incredible Hulk showcases one of the most interesting scenes from Hulk in any project. He fights a juiced-up Emil Blonsky who has been given an imperfect version of a super-soldier serum, battles with sonic cannons using large metal sheets as shields, and restrains himself when he sees Betty Ross, the girl Banner is deeply in love with. This is a refined, intelligent, and powerful version of the Hulk, though his rage does still consume him and leads to him destroying almost everything in sight.

“I’m Always Angry”
The Avengers (2012)
When Bruce Banner returned in The Avengers, Mark Ruffalo took over the role after Norton’s departure from the MCU. As a result, there was room to adjust the character and the style which allowed the new version of the Hulk to share striking similarities with his alter ego. However, the big green guy only has two real scenes in The Avengers, thanks to Banner’s ability to largely control his anger after living with his unique condition for so many years.

I Can’t Believe A Marvel Movie Introduced A Key Part Of The Hulk’s Story 16 Years Before The Comics & Then Never Used It On-Screen Again
Ang Lee’s 2003 Hulk movie beat the MCU to the punch and adapted a key Marvel storyline… sixteen years before it existed in the comics.

Of the two scenes, his final appearance is easily the best, with Banner revealing his secret to staying calm to the heroes before transforming into the Hulk and fighting the aliens in New York. This scene is full of incredible moments, with Hulk climbing skyscrapers, smashing Loki around like a ragdoll, throwing a sly punch at Captain America, and even saving his dear friend Tony Stark after he falls back through the wormhole. Hulk has evolved to have more control, take direction, and work with others, though he is yet to fully control his temper.
Bruce Banner Pops Up In Iron Man 3
In Iron Man 3, Bruce Banner gets a short cameo in the post-credits scene as he sits down with Tony Stark. Tony recounts the story of putting a stop to Aldrich Killian, and finally removing all the shrapnel from his chest. However, Bruce is clearly exhausted, and he falls asleep at the beginning. It’s a light comical moment, but a great way to keep Banner connected with the wider MCU despite the character not having any solo outings. Tony also references a snake swallowing its own tail, which is an interesting connection to the Loki series that came out nearly a decade later.

The God Of Thunder Battles The Champion Of Sakaar
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Speaking of great MCU battles, Thor: Ragnarok provides Hulk with his biggest starring role in the franchise to date, despite the hero not getting his name on the title card. Regardless, when Thor finds himself sent to the mysterious wastelands of Sakaar, he is captured and forced to compete in an area in order to earn his freedom. While Thor is a powerful warrior who can take down almost any rival, he is stunned to learn that he is set to fight his old friend, Hulk.
Hulk wound up in Sakaar, and on this planet, the green giant is hailed as a hero and champion who fights and entertains the community on Sakaar. He also reveals that he is now capable of speech, having spent considerable time living and learning how to function as Hulk full-time. The battle is intense, and it’s largely down to Thor’s ability to call down thunder that he takes the lead. Otherwise, Hulk’s brute force was overwhelming the god of thunder.

Thanos Took Hulk Down A Peg
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
When it comes to Avengers: Infinity War, Hulk’s role in the movie is extremely limited. The character may be at the height of his brute strength, but the Mad Titan, Thanos, is too fast, agile, tactically skilled, and strong to be defeated by the Hulk alone. Hulk rushes Thanos with all his strength and power, and while he appears to get the advantage initially, Thanos turns the tides quickly.

Smart Hulk Brings Half Of All Life Back With A Snap
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Fortunately, by the time the next movie rolls around, Hulk is back, but he is significantly different this time around. Avengers: Endgame picks up five years after the devastating loss the heroes suffered at the hands of Thanos. While half of all life across the universe was wiped out, the Avengers managed to team up, crack the code to time travel, and gather the Infinity Stones together in order to bring everyone back. And despite heroes like Thor volunteering to wield the stones and bring everyone back, it’s ultimately Smart Hulk that decides to put himself on the line.
In the five years since half of the universe disappeared, Hulk and Banner were able to settle their differences. And somehow, the pair were able to mesh themselves together, with Banner’s intelligence, and Hulk’s powerful green body. This created the powerful Smart Hulk, who was nowehere near as aggressive as the pure Hulk, but it did mean they could work smarter instead of just smashing. In this state, Smart Hulk was able to wield the new gauntlet, power up the stones, and snap everyone who went missing back.

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law (2022)

Whether it was due to the smaller dosage of gamma radiation from just sharing blood, or some other factor, Jennifer got a handle on her powers pretty quickly. Hulk Versus Wolverine
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Finally, the most recent appearance of the Hulk in the MCU wasn’t actually the Hulk that the audience is used to seeing at all. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool finds himself traveling the multiverse in an effort to track down a new anchor being and stop his universe from being pruned. On his journey, he meets several versions of Wolverine, with several referencing classic comic books. Incredible Hulk #340 came out in 1987, and it featured a comic book cover that saw the Gray Hulk reflected in the adamantium claws of Wolverine in an incredibly similar moment to what plays out on screen in Deadpool & Wolverine.
While this cameo is extremely brief, and it doesn’t get into the actual action of a fight between Hulk and Wolverine, it definitely inspires hope for the possibilities to come when the X-Men arrive in the MCU, and the actual Hulk comes face to face with Logan down the road. As far as this cameo goes, it’s minor and an alternate version of the character, but it is a lot of fun as far as Hulk’s appearances across different Marvel properties.
