Bangladesh captain Najmul Hussain Shatto won the toss and decided to bowl first against India in the first of the two-match series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
2024 Ind vs Ban Test Series 1st Match Day 1 Scorecard
As the greenness of the pitch favoured the seam bowlers, the match was bowled out for just 23 overs. Bangladesh started strongly with Hasan Mahmood taking three and removing Rohit, Gill and Kohli to put India in a bind. However, there was a revival in the second hour as Jaiswal formed a solid 50-run partnership with Pant despite him coughing.
As the pitch dries out, the batting is expected to improve. Pant, promoted to No.5 batsman for KL, reined in his attack after surviving Shadman’s miss, providing support to the cautious but effective Jaiswal. Things should get more favourable after lunch.
