IPL retains highlights

All ten teams have implemented the IPL 2025 retention strategy to maintain competitive balance within the teams. Each team can choose to retain up to five players who have represented the national team and two players who have not represented the national team, for a total of up to six players. Teams that choose to retain fewer players will benefit from additional rights-to-match (RTM) options as well as more generous funding in the upcoming mega-auction.

Kings XI Punjab have opted for a different strategy by retaining only two uncapped players – Shashank Singh and Prabhusimran Singh – while retaining none of the players who have played. Therefore, they will offer four RTM options for cap players at the auction.

In contrast, Mumbai Indians have maintained a more traditional approach and retained five players who have represented the national team: Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik ·Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Tilak Varma, no players who have not represented the national team.

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders took a bold step by releasing champion captain Shreyas Iyer but retained all six allotted players including all-rounder Sunil Narine, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and rising star Linku Singh. Likewise, Rajasthan Royals also utilized all six retained players.

As we get closer to the IPL 2025 mega auction, the retention decisions taken by the franchise will undoubtedly shape the franchise and set the stage for another exciting season of cricket.
