Barry Keoghan had a difficult life growing up in Summerhill, Dublin, Ireland. His mother was a drug addict and died when he was 12. Barry and his brother Eric spent seven years in various foster homes, moving 13 times.
Eventually, they found stability with the help of their grandmother, aunt and sister Gemma.While attending O’Connell School in Dublin, Barry enjoyed taking part in drama performances, but got into trouble for not following the rules and was banned from attending.
He sneaked into the cinema with his friends and fell in love with movies, although he was later kicked out. Barry’s acting career began with a small role in the film “Between the Canals”.
Despite facing financial difficulties, he continued to pursue his dream and took acting classes at Dublin drama school The Factory (now Bow Street Academy). Barry remembers not even having enough money to buy bus fare to acting school.
