Megamind (2012) is an American computer-animated superhero comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation and PDI/DreamWorks and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simmons wrote the film’s script, under the direction of Tom McGrath, and stars Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill , David Cross and Brad Pitt and other star voice actors laid the foundation.
The story delves into the life of Megamind, a super-intelligent alien supervillain. After defeating his long-time rival Metro Man, Megamind creates a new hero to fight. However, when his own “creation” evolves into an even more terrifying villain, he’s forced to step in.
Megamind premiered in Russia on October 28, 2010, and was subsequently released in the United States on November 5, 2010, to generally positive reviews from critics. Although the film grossed over $321 million worldwide, it was one of DreamWorks Animation’s lower-grossing CGI animated productions of the 2010s on a budget of $130 million.
The film’s impact extends beyond its initial release. It spawned a franchise that includes video games and a short film titled “Megamind: The Doom Button,” which was released on DVD and Blu-ray on February 25, 2011.
It is worth noting that the spin-off series “Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City” will be launched in 2022 and is planned to be broadcast on Peacock. Over time, Megamind’s popularity surged again, amassing a loyal following and earning the status of a cult favorite.
Big bad plot
Megamind tells the story of Megamind and Metro Man, two alien baby aliens who land on Earth after the planet is destroyed. While Metro Man grew up in luxury, Megamind grew up in prison and became a supervillain due to his difficult life. The two developed a rivalry, with Megamind always trying to defeat Metro Man but failing.
When Megamind seemingly defeated Metro Man, he took over the city but was unhappy because there were no heroes to fight. He created a new hero using Metro Man’s DNA, but accidentally gave the power to a bumbling guy named Hal, who became the villain Tyton. Megamind, with the help of his friends the Minions, attempts to stop Tyten’s mayhem.
They realize that Metro Man is still alive and living a different life, and ask him for help. He refuses and encourages the villain to become a hero. The Big Bad deceives Tyne and saves the world, earning the city’s respect.
He rekindles a relationship with reporter Roxanne, and Megamind becomes the city’s new hero. The Metro people secretly support him and they all celebrate their victory.
