Yes, “Snow Society” is based on a true story. It comes from a real book called “La Sociedad de la Nieve” written by Pablo Vierci. This book tells the stories of 16 people who survived horrific events. On October 12, 1972, Flight 751 took off from Monvido, Uruguay, with 45 people on board. These included 19 players from the Old Christians Club rugby team as well as their friends and family.

Unfortunately, the pilot made a mistake and the plane began its descent prematurely. The plane crashed into a mountain and both wings were broken off. It landed in a very remote spot in the Andes Mountains at a very high altitude of 11,710 feet. The survivors remained in the damaged plane and had to deal with avalanches and freezing temperatures as low as -35 degrees Celsius for 72 days. Finally, they were rescued.
