Is Zelda Kingdom Tears a multiplayer game?
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a single-player experience designed exclusively for Nintendo Switch. The game does not offer any multiplayer functionality, either local or online. This may come as no surprise to fans of its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, which also lacked multiplayer functionality.
The focus of Kingdom Tears remains on delivering an engaging single-player adventure that immerses players in the game’s rich world and storyline without distractions or the need for cooperative or competitive multiplayer modes. Players can enjoy the game at their own pace and explore the vast and enchanting world of Zelda without the involvement of other players.

The Legend of Zelda Kingdom Tears review
From the moment I started playing Kingdom Tears, I was completely hooked. It’s been two weeks since the game and I find myself unable to leave the game for a moment. As a 34-year-old woman, few video games have had as strong an appeal to me as they did when I was younger. But every few years, a game comes along that reminds me of the magic of video games, transporting you to another world and making time disappear. Kingdom Tears is a magical experience that immerses you so deeply that it changes the way you perceive the real world.
The game begins with you as a half-naked elf protagonist stranded on an island in the sky. As you progress through the countless hours of gameplay, you’ll find yourself wearing outlandish costumes found in hidden caves or purchased from artisans in far-off villages. Your arsenal will include a delightful array of weapons scavenged from ruins or crafted by fusing rocks and clubs together.
Along the way, you’ll collect stories of countless adventures. While Kingdom Tears offers a path to follow, I found it impossible to stay on track for long without being struck by the many shenanigans that await.
I set out from a stable to meet a village elder, only to find a heated argument taking place outside a cave. Curiosity drove me to jump off my horse and explore the cave, emerging from the other side to find an unknown sky tower in the distance. With the flamethrower shield I invented earlier, I can fight monsters on my way to the tower.

I spontaneously built a makeshift go-kart from parts I found near their camp and rode halfway up the mountain toward the tower. I would light a fire and burn away the thorn bushes blocking the entrance, then climb up the tower, catapult into the sky, and discover a glowing temple on a floating island. Gliding toward it, I focused entirely on solving its puzzles. Three hours later, I found myself halfway up Death Mountain on the other side of the map. The village chief was still waiting, and my abandoned horse was still digging the ground outside the cave.
The sense of freedom in Tears of the Kingdom is absolutely exhilarating. The kingdom of Hyrule is vast and fun, and the ability to freely navigate between the sky and the ground is a never-ending thrill. This game delivers on the promise that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword hinted at years ago.
Additionally, Tears of the Kingdom gives you unprecedented freedom to tackle countless challenges. Hero Link’s magical arms let you pick up, move, and combine almost anything in the game world. Placing a dazzling seed on your shield will blind enemies attacking you, while fusing a monster’s eyes with your arrows will cause it to seek out its target.
You can build a raft, a carriage, a hot air balloon or a wacky ladder out of the various objects you come across. A wealth of mechanics, from steering wheels to rockets to springs and fans, power your creations, allowing you to build airplanes, karts, catapults, and just about anything you can imagine.
Playing with these homemade contraptions has given me countless unexpected moments of triumph and laughter. Every time I asked myself, “What would happen if I did this?” and the game responded in some interesting ways. Once, trapped in a blizzard in the snowy highlands, I improvised a rocket-powered sled and clung on for dear life as it tumbled down the hillside completely out of control.

“The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. As a sequel to “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” released in 2017, “Tears of the Kingdom” builds on the foundation of its predecessor. The game retains Hyrule’s open-world environment but expands the areas to allow for greater vertical exploration.
Players reprise the role of iconic protagonist Link as he joins forces with Princess Zelda to defeat the evil Ganondorf, who seeks to bring destruction to the continent of Hyrule.
The concept for Kingdom Tears was born out of an idea for Breath of the Wild’s downloadable content (DLC) that has grown beyond what was initially expected. Nintendo’s Entertainment Planning and Development (EPD) department, led by director Hidemaro Fujibayashi and producer Eiji Aonuma, took the lead on the game’s development.
The project was first revealed at E3 2019, sparking excitement among fans, and was revealed more fully at E3 2021. The game was originally slated for release in 2022, but experienced delays and was eventually released in May 2023.
Kingdom Tears has been widely praised by players and critics. It was praised for its numerous improvements and enhancements over its predecessor, particularly in terms of its expanded open-world design. The game encourages exploration and experimentation, allowing players to engage with the world of Hyrule in new and exciting ways. The addition of new features and mechanics led to a positive response, making Kingdom Tears a highly regarded entry in the long-running Legend of Zelda series.
Is Zelda Kingdom of Tears a co-op mode?
Kingdom Tears does not feature cooperative gameplay. Like most previous Zelda games, the game is designed to be a single-player experience, with no co-op required. Players will embark on an adventure alone in Hyrule, immersed in the vast world, and participate in challenges and tasks as a lone hero.
The focus remains on personal journeys, exploration and puzzle-solving, allowing players to delve into the game’s rich narrative and gameplay mechanics on their own. There is no co-op feature in Kingdom Tears, maintaining the series’ tradition of delivering an engaging single-player experience.
