As a weekend getaway goes awry after one of the guests is revealed to be a companion robot, Companion is an often funny and chilling look at technology and love, and what happens when things go wrong with them. Featuring a committed performance from Sophie Thatcher as Iris, Companion avoided the January trap by being an actual good film, and is delightfully original and twisted in all the right ways, contributing to a strong start for films in 2025.

There is a lot of complexity to the character and his actions can sometimes be questionable, making him a perfect contrast to Thatcher’s Iris.

Alongside Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid is fantastic as Josh, the boyfriend of Iris. There is a lot of complexity to the character and his actions can sometimes be questionable, making him a perfect contrast to Thatcher’s Iris. The two of them have terrific chemistry together and Jack Quaid proves that he continues to be an actor to reckon with, as he delivers one of the best performances of his career.

The Hunger Games was a cultural phenomenon in the early 2010s and arguably the best YA dystopian franchise that came out during that era. Tasked with adapting the mega-successful first novel of the same name, The Hunger Games transported viewers into a game of life and death between a group of children. It is a chilling look at a dystopia under a crushing regime, with some truly thrilling action sequences featured throughout.

Long before he made a name for himself, Jack Quaid’s first role was in The Hunger Games. He played Marvel, one of the tributes from District 1, bred to fight since he was young. Marvel is a minor antagonist in the film, joining up with the other tributes once the game starts as they attempt to take out every other competitor with Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen a priority target. His character was also the one to kill Rue, making him one of the most unlikable people in the film.

Ocean’s Eleven by way of NASCAR, Logan Lucky is a unique heist film by director Steven Soderbergh as two brothers attempt to rob a massive racing event. Hilarious from start to finish, Logan Lucky features incredible performances from Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, and Daniel Craig, and with its offbeat sense of humor, there is a lot to love about it. Seeing the heist come together and all the twists along the way make for an immensely enjoyable watch.

It is just another example of how naturally funny Quaid is as an actor.

Jack Quaid doesn’t have a massive role in the film, but he is pretty hilarious as Fish Bang, one of the brothers to Daniel Craig’s Joe Bang. As a self-proclaimed computer whiz, Fish Bang has a small part in Logan Lucky but is extremely memorable, with Jack Quaid really leaning into the absurdity of the character and the movie as a whole. It is just another example of how naturally funny Quaid is as an actor.

With a tongue-in-cheek title poking fun at recent movie trends, Scream is actually the fifth movie in the franchise and the first to not be directed by the late Wes Craven. Despite that, Scream is actually a great return to one of the most beloved horror franchises of all time. It successfully bridged the gap between the old cast and new, making it one of the better legacy sequels around while maintaining all the fun meta-humor and brutal violence the franchise excels at.

For most of the film, Jack Quaid is perfect as Richie Kirsch, boyfriend to Sam Carpenter who is reluctant to go to Woodsboro with Ghostface on the loose. Of course, Richie turns out to be one of the killers, which allows him to ham up his performance following the reveal in iconic Scream fashion. It’s a fantastic performance that eventually lets Jack Quaid show that he can be versatile as an actor.

Drawing heavy inspiration from anime in its character designs and fight scenes, My Adventures with Superman is a fresh new take on the character. Consistently charming, what makes My Adventures with Superman so great is how much focus it places on Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s relationship, really making it the center of everything the show is trying to do. It definitely succeeds in that area, making it one of the best modern interpretations of Superman.

The effort of Paramount + to build out its Star Trek universe has been hit or miss, with some of the worst shows in the franchise coming from the streaming era, but also some of the best. Star Trek: Lower Decks fits the latter description as the animated series is one of the best Star Trek shows of all time. Consistently hilarious, Star Trek: Lower Decks explores a low-ranking support crew and their starship escapades. One of the best aspects of the show, though, is how much love it has for the franchise as a whole, making it a true delight.

Jack Quaid got to play a live-action version of his character during a crossover episode with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Jack Quaid is fantastic in the series, voicing Brad Boimler, one of the show’s main characters. Brad Boimler likes to adhere to the rules and lacks the improvisation needed to make a great captain someday. The character’s disposition fits Jack Quaid perfectly, and he continuously nails his performance throughout the show’s five seasons.

Tasked with living up to immense expectations after Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse blew everyone away, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse didn’t miss a beat, featuring some of the greatest animated sequences ever made and all the multiverse hopping action fans could want. It is also incredibly heartfelt, with some emotionally impactful moments sprinkled throughout. With Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse on the horizon, the trilogy could become one of the best superhero trilogies of all time when it is over.

Jack Quaid doesn’t have a big role in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse at all, but his character is incredibly important to Gwen’s story. He plays her version of Peter Parker, accidentally turning himself into the Lizard and eventually dying during a fight against Gwen. Though he doesn’t have much screen time, Jack Quaid is able to put a lot of emotion behind his performance as Peter Parker, with his scene being part of one of the most heartbreaking sequences in the entire film.

One of Christopher Nolan’s greatest films, Oppenheimer secured the acclaimed director his first Oscar win for Best Director and Best Picture, with Robert Downey Jr. and Cillian Murphy both taking home acting awards in the process. The three-hour biographical epic about the creation of the atomic bomb is one of Nolan’s most financially successful films as well, and features some of the greatest performances of the decade so far. It’s an undeniably impressive feat and one Christopher Nolan will continue to try to live up to for the rest of his career.

Though Jack Quaid doesn’t have a significant role in Oppenheimer, he is able to hold his own alongside some of the best actors on the planet, playing Richard Feynman, a theoretical physicist who assisted in creating the atomic bomb. Seeing him pop up in a film of Oppenheimer’s caliber shows just how talented he is as an actor.

The Boys is a gritty and subversive take on the superhero genre, focusing on a group of vigilantes who confront powerful superheroes abusing their abilities, exploring themes of corruption and moral ambiguity in a world where heroes are not always what they seem.

When it premiered in 2019 on Amazon Prime, The Boys was an instant success, becoming the streamer’s most popular series, as it continues to chug along after four seasons. Poking fun at the superhero genre, The Boys is violent, profane, and downright nasty, but that is what makes it so appealing. Couple that with one of the best villains of recent memory in Homelander, and it has become an iconic staple of comic book adaptations.

The Boys was Jack Quaid’s big breakthrough, as he plays Hughie, an average guy who joins a group of vigilantes that attempt to take down superhumans after his girlfriend was accidentally killed by one. Seeing Hughie’s progression as a character throughout the series is one of the best aspects of it, and Jack Quaid is incredible as the character, taking him from a timid nice guy to someone else entirely.
