Jewar Airport: Opening Date, Budget, Location and Other Updates on Noida International Airport

Noida International Airport, popularly known as Jewar Airport, is set to be a game-changer for air travel in northern India. Located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, this greenfield airport is one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the region.

Noida International Airport (NIAL) successfully conducted its first flight verification test on December 9, ANI reported. The test, which was conducted months ahead of its planned official commercial operation in April 2025, was conducted by an IndiGo flight from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) to NIAL.

The test provided the final safety-related analysis to the airport and the aircraft landed between 1 pm and 2 pm after all necessary checks were approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu said the verification flight marked a key step towards preparing the airport for commercial operations by the end of April

Jewar Airport: Opening Dates

According to media reports, Noida International Airport in Jewar is expected to start operations on April 17, 2025. Previously, the airport was originally planned to be opened in September 2024, but due to delays in the delivery of construction equipment and materials, which affected the progress of the project, the schedule was revised.

Jewar Airport: Budget

The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated significant funds in the 2024-25 budget to improve connectivity and promote air travel. Rs 1,150 crore has been allocated for land acquisition and construction of Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar area.

Besides, Rs 914 crore has been allocated for the ongoing Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project to enhance intra-city transportation. These investments are intended to support infrastructure development and promote regional connectivity.

Jewar Airport: Location

Noida International Airport is under construction in Jewar town in Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Jewar is located on the northeastern bank of the Yamuna River, close to the outskirts of Greater Noida.

The airport is strategically located near the National Capital Region (NCR) and is easily accessible to travelers from Delhi, Noida and other nearby areas.

The town’s location close to the Yamuna River enhances its connectivity to major infrastructure projects, including highways and a proposed metro line, which will make reaching the airport faster and more convenient.

Furthermore, Jewar’s selection of this project underscores the government’s commitment to expand aviation facilities in less congested areas while promoting economic development and employment opportunities in this part of Uttar Pradesh.

Jewar Airport: major updates

  • Upon completion, Jewar Airport will serve a total of 30 flights, including 25 domestic flights, 2 international flights and 1 cargo flight
  • IndiGo and Alkasa Air are currently in talks with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) over routes for domestic and international flights
  • The airport plans to operate 65 flights every day, including 62 domestic flights, 2 international flights and 1 cargo flight.
