After graduating from Philadelphia High School for Girls, she enrolled at Temple University with the dream of becoming a high school English teacher. However, after three years, she became disillusioned with teaching and dropped out. Scott began her career as a spoken word artist, performing at live poetry readings and was discovered by Amir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots.
